OOC: Oy, sorry that it's a little open-ended.. I wanted to leave ya room to pop in. =) Kate hadn't brought very much with her to Washington from her home in Alaska. It had been a snap decision because she needed a change. So, it was now time for a shopping excursion in Port Angeles. She wanted to bring Alice with her, but the pixie was distracted by Mister Whitlock. It was all right, though, because whatever Kate bought she would most likely show off to Alice when she returned. Alice definitely had a neat sense of style, and Kate very much valued her opinion in that area.
Just after sundown, Kate borrowed one of the Cullen's vehicles, and made her way to the lovely little Port town. She parked at a meter, not bothering to put any coins in it. A parking ticket didn't phase Miss Kazakova. She was a bit too wealthy to care for a forty or so dollar ticket. She shifted her messenger bag a little on her shoulder, walking up to one of the clothing shops and heading inside. Nothing too eye-catching, she thought, stopping at one of the racks. She wanted to look adorable, as always, but she needed to blend into the Forks community.
She began to shop, taking out a piece of clothing here and there to drape over her arm. Once she found some items she liked, she went up to the cashier and handed her credit card over without even looking at the total. "Thank you," she cooed at the teenager after her items were packaged. She took the bag and headed for the door, shoving the credit card back into its place within her messenger bag. She continued down the strip of shops and restaurants, twirling the bag in her hand and humming softly to herself. Kate was satisfied, but she wasn't quite finished spending money yet.
As she reached a little cafe with an open deck, she slowed her pace. There were many different humans sharing meals there, and Kate stopped herself from venturing any closer. She paused her walking entirely as she zeroed in on a couple that was flirting and laughing at a table by themselves. A pang of jealousy hit Kate quicker than she could blink, and she frowned. The girl fed her mate a cherry from her drink, and Kate had to look away. The life of an immortal was a lonely one. Another reason why she had left Denali for Forks.

Ben's thoughts were irritated as he strolled through the streets of Port Angeles. If he had learned one thing on his visit here, it was that nothing interesting ever happened. Just boring people, living their boring lives every boring day of the boring year. For a moment the errant thought of jumping off the space needle seized him again, until common sense won over. Doing that would just involve revealing vampiric existence to the ignorant humans, and would end up involving the Volturi, and that was a can of worms Ben would rather keep closed. But it would be oh so fun.
Ben's signature grin slipped back into place on his face as he thought of how people would react to that scenario. It would most definitely be quite entertaining. Up until the whole head being bitten off and burnt part with the Volturi. Ben sighed dramatically, capturing a few stares from passerby's. He couldn't wait to move on from Washington, even though he had no idea where he would go to after this. Not that it particularly mattered, not when you had all of forever to do whatever you wanted.
Looking around and consciously taking in his surroundings for the first time in a few minutes, Ben found himself near a small cafe, the smell of cafe food and blood assaulting his nose. Scanning the deck, he noticed a rather cute waitress serving. He smiled as the possibilities began taking form in his head. He could imagine her reaction now: her heart would speed up, a flush would rise to her cheek, shameless flirtation. It would be really amusing.
As he was about to start walking, he froze, smelling the air again. He had noticed another scent, that had been initially masked by the smell of food and blood. It was the smell of another vampire. Ben's face broke out into a large, wicked grin as he thought he might have finally found some fun.
Ben started forward again, trying to pick out the other vampire in the small crowd. And then, there she was. Of course, she didn't exactly blend in. Sliding forward, Ben was behind her just a tad too fast for it to be considered normal. The grin shifting down to an acceptably human grin, Ben greeted the female vampire. "Hello there."

Kate was stuck in an odd place. Tanya had shown her a world of loving and leaving men on a nightly basis. And Irina led her life differently. Kate had be exposed to both ends of the spectrum and did not really know where she fell. She was lonely, though, she knew that much. But was that enough of a reason to settle down? Ugh, settling down made Kate feel eons older than she already was. And why should she? It wasn't as if she could ever live like a true human at this point. The Cullens were an exception. They had made a family for themselves. They all had soulmates.
Kate shook her head once to come back to the real world. A second later, she realized how close-by another vampire had gotten while she was lost in thoughts. It made her tense that she did not recognize who he was. Being a vegetarian vampire was her personal choice, but whenever the idea came up in the presence of others of her kind that did not understand, it always become an awkward conversation. She just preferred to stay within the confines of her coven and family. She glanced back to the couple at the restaurant as her back stiffened, realizing how close to her the vampire had just gotten.
"Yes, hello," she replied, glancing over her shoulder at him. Immediately she knew he fed on humans, and grew exceedingly more uncomfortable. Unsure whether he was friend or foe, or if he knew why her eyes were golden, Kate looked back ahead as she waited quietly for him to speak again. She hugged one arm around her, feeling the little sparks of electricity that were forming due to her defenses raising up.

Ben mentally frowned in disappointment at the vampires reaction. He was hoping for something a little more entertaining. Though shocked reactions were really more human domain. He smiled brightly, trying to exude a sense of friendliness. "So what brings you to this," Ben rolled a few adjectives around in his head before finally deciding on one that was appropriate, "quaint little town? And you do mind if I ask you your name?"
Ben tried to make the fact he was staring at the other vampires eyes a little obscure. Or at least not creepily obviously. He was sure it was safe to say that he was failing completely. He shifted around in his memories irritably, trying to remember what caused vampires to have gold eyes. Finally after what seemed a painfully long time to Ben but was really only a few seconds, he came upon the answer, courtesy of a memory from his time with the Volturi. Gold eyes were caused by feeding on animals, and were used by those self proclaimed 'vegetarian' vampires. Now that he could remember the cause, all other information associated with the lifestyle flowed easily to him. Except for something he couldn't quite place. It felt like it was something important he should remember. Now if only he knew what it was that he needed to be remembered.
Ben tore his eyes away from hers, realizing that he had been staring while he had remembered everything. He smiled brightly, trying to stop the inevitable feeling of creepiness he had undoubtedly bestowed upon the other vampire. "I hope you can forgive me for staring. It took me a moment to remember what your eye color meant. I've never had the pleasure of meeting anyone like yourself." Ben had picked his words carefully, to avoid all the curious human ears that were listening in on the conversation going on. It was really inevitable when you were a vampire, people just had a tendency to stare. And listen. And be terrified.

OOC: Now might be a good time to ask if you are aware that Ben is blessed with a power, before Kate shocks him and we get into the problems with that. xD
Anyways, if you are aware, just skip the rest of this post. Otherwise you might want to pay attention. Ben's power is short-circuiting other vampires power, to varying degrees depending on how close he is to them. With Kate's power involving contact with Ben, her shocking power would pretty much have the opposite effect of what should happen.
You know, I should probably ask Stephi or Slayer if it's ok for Ben to actually have this power.....nah. They can complain to me if they don't like it later. xD

OOC: yeah, I read that Ben's power was that on your profile page. =P I figured that power would be very interesting.. and Kate has control of her power, but it's also a defensive power. So when she feels unsafe, the power kind of has a mind of its own. =P But either way, if we get to a point where she attempts to shock him, it could prove interesting. ^_^;; Oh, btw. By opposite effect, do you mean it would hurt Kate instead of Ben? I just wanted to clarify in case I need to be able to RP it out. ^_~; Kate could sense the age difference between herself and this male vampire. He could not have been more than a few years into his immortality. If he learned anything from Kate, it was that sneaking up on a fellow vampire was nearly impossible. Or perhaps this one knew that fact already and simply anticipated Kate to perform in front of the humans. Kate was not a trained monkey, that was certain.
For a moment, Kate was glad that Edward's mind reading ability wasn't a very common vampiric gift. She didn't want to give this man any reason to dislike her, as she was sure there would be an amount of animosity between them just for their differences in the hunt. "I'm shopping, actually," she replied, lifting up the shopping bag to gesture towards so as to back up her statement.
"And I'm Kate," she added, glancing up to him again with a small smile. Might as well be pleasant, she thought. As he held her eye contact, she felt somewhat awkward again. What was he looking for, exactly? She flitted her gaze around once or twice, before looking at him again. She raised one eyebrow, about to question him, when he finally broke his gaze.
"Oh, it's all right," she replied as he explained himself. "I am a rare breed." Kate wasn't nearly as worried about the surrounding humans. She had lived amongst them long enough to know that they were a quite oblivious species.

OOC: That's what I was thinking would happen. ^.^
------------------------------------------------------
Ben glanced down at the shopping bags, feeling a little annoyed by the fact he hadn't noticed them before. Even as a vampire he was awfully oblivious. "Kate. What a nice name. It's a pleasure to meet you." Ben said as warmly as he could. He shot a cursory glance up at the sky, a habit ingrained to make sure it was still overcast. The cloud layer today hadn't been as think as normal, and Ben would rather not burst into all his sparkling brilliance in the middle of a populated town. If you could count Port Angeles as populated.
Ben chuckled silently at her rare breed comment. "Truly you are. I imagine it must be quite difficult way to live." Ben couldn't imagine living on animal blood. Human blood wasn't even capable of fully satiating the burning ache for long, let alone animal blood. The concept was completely unimaginable for Ben. "I haven't been around long enough to be an entirely accurate judge of course." Not entirely true of course. Ben had picked up some stuff when he had had his little glimpse into Aro's mind.
For the first time, Ben noticed a couple sharing a meal on the deck. They were being all lovey-dovey, feeding each other food and staring at each other with love filled eyes. Ben felt like gaging, watching them. He couldn't imagine ever being a part of such a couple. And any thoughts involving such were near vomit inducing. Of course, the lovey-dovey couple effect was shattered the first time Ben noticed them shooting looks at him and Kate. Sometimes it was good to look like a God. Or in Kate's case, a goddess.

OOC -- Sorry for bein' MIA a couple-a days. I was finishing up exams for school. Well, gee, if Kate knew the boy would like her name so much, she would have told him her full name to really 'wow' him. A small smirk snaked its way onto her lips at the thought. "Nice to meet you too," she replied, still skeptical amidst her outwardly friendly appearance. She watched as he laughed at her comment, wishing she was the one with the ability to read minds. Only so long enough to figure this guy out. If only Edward were around; the problem would be solved.
"It's difficult," she mused as she glanced to the humans at the restaurant again. "But it's ultimately preferable to murdering those who were once my kind." Being a vegetarian vampire was no simple task, but Kate was committed to the lifestyle because of her sisters. She never liked the guilty conscience after she made her dates into meals. "It's a personal choice, though. I wouldn't tell anyone else that they shouldn't feed on humans." She looked at him, knowing from his eye color the type of vampire he was.
"We were made to be predators of the human race." She shrugged one shoulder, looking away again. "I just can't be a party to that philosophy anymore, myself." She noticed that the touchy-feely couple that Kate had previously been pining over were now gawking at herself and Ben. She sighed a little, shaking her head. "Suppose it's time to get away from the mortals. Before we really draw out some sort of paparazzi." She smirked a little at her joke, running a hand through her blonde hair.

Ben cocked his head, trying to imagine feeling guilty about doing something that was just in your nature. The idea was completely incomprehensible to someone who had never felt guilt in his life. Maybe it was something that came with age. Or maybe it was just the vampire. Giving his head a small shake to derail his train of thought, Ben returned his mind to the situation at hand. He smirked at Kate's last comment. "I can see the headlines now. "Gods spotted in Port Angeles. New religion formed."" Ben paused, mulling over the thought of being worshiped as a god. "I don't think I'd like being worshiped." He said. "Would you?" From what he had gathered about Kate so far, her answer would most probably be no.
"So where would you like to go? I am open for anything." Ben smiled. He really would be up for anything. Of course, he really hoped Kate wouldn't want to get rid of him just yet. This was the most fun he had in a while. "You know, I'm impressed. I would have expected someone to have pulled out a picture phone," Ben stopped as he heard the shtter noise someones phone made as it took a picture. "Er, nevermind." He laughed loudly. Humans could be quite amusing when they wanted to be.

OOC: Sorry it's so short. I think my muse decided to take a vacation. Or it could be the fact I'm dead beat tired. lol

OOC: Ish okay, dear. Kate let a smirk sneak across her lips as she watched the humans that were gawking and talking about them. She most certainly didn't think she gave off the appearance of a God, but the joke was still enjoyable. He questioned the idea of being worshipped like one, and Kate tilted her head to one side. "Hm.." She looked over to him. "The gifts upon gifts might be a nice perk amongst the worship." She let out a short laugh, shaking her head after. "But no, I probably wouldn't like all of the attention lavished on me in that way, to be honest."
She thought for a moment, about to ask him something when he mentioned going elsewhere. She raised an eyebrow slightly as she looked to him again. "Well, I'd be more comfortable going somewhere else with you if I knew your name, Mister Mystery." She pursed her lips a little, finally pointing out the fact that he hadn't introduced himself yet. She looked back to the couple, and just as he was making the comment, she watched them snap a picture. "Are they for real?" She tightened her grip on the handles of her shopping bag. She felt a shiver of electricity surge over her skin as her irritation grew. "Hmph, yes. Let's go elsewhere, please."

Ben couldn't help bet let loose a short laugh at Kate's mystery man comment. "I am like a super hero. Except better looking, have a better sense of humor, and do not save the world on a daily basis." He scowled a little as more and more phones appeared in the restaurant's customers hands, snapping pictures or possibly even taking videos. "You'd think people would have better things to do then," Ben raised his voice, making sure the humans would hear him. "Ogle complete strangers." He added an accusatory note to his voice, and to his pleasure noticed a few people look ashamed. "We might want to make our exit soon. Otherwise we might burst into flames from the shear intensity of the humans' ogling." He muttered, too quite for anyone at the tables to hear. He didn't really mind having peoples attention, but he did tend to get a bit uncomfortable when people were staring at them so hard their eyes might pop out of their heads.
Ben ran his hand through his hair, glancing up at the sky. To his chagrin, the sun appeared to be winning in it's fight against the cloud layer. It appeared Port Angeles might have one of it's rare sunny moments. It wouldn't last long, maybe a half an hour, but it was enough to ruin everything. Though it would be a good laugh at first. "I suppose we move somewhere with a bit more shade." He said, as he noticed that a couple of humans were getting up. Probably to ask for an autograph, or get a picture. He paused, having the odd feeling he was forgetting to do something. "Oh ya! I still have to tell you my name don't I?" He laughed. "I'm Benjamin. Ben for short."

Kate glanced sidelong at Ben as he made the super hero comment. She refrained from rolling her eyes, giving a small smirk instead. She looked back to the mortals as more cell phones surfaced. She nearly growled at all of their gawking, clenching and unclenching her fists. "Yes, you most certainly would." What was the purpose of these silly humans doing this? It wasn't as if Kate were something to ogle. She wasn't any famous person, and she certainly wasn't someone to look up to. She was over one thousand years old, and an immortal monster. Who would want to look up to someone who had killed people? A predator who now killed animals in the same way as any lion or bear.
The thought of those creatures brought up the sick taste of venom in Kate's throat, and she shut her eyes in an attempt to quell the need. There were too many humans around to allow her hunger to get out of hand. She guessed her eye color had already darkened some from its pretty golden hue. Needless to say, Kate wasn't entirely proud of the being she was. Although if any vampire was entirely satisfied with killing innocents, then perhaps they were soulless creatures like the media portrayed.
"Yes," she said, voice tinged with spite, "Let's go elsewhere." Her hunger was starting to irritate her, and she was getting edgy. She glanced at him briefly, starting away from the annoyingly enticing humans surrounding her and going into the shaded alleyway down the street. "Well, Ben. Nice to meet you." She glanced around in the alley before leaning against a wall. "I'm quite hungry, to be honest. It would be unfortunate if I had to cut our meeting short," she murmured to him.

Ben followed Kate into the alley, smiling at her vehement reaction to the humans' gawking. He really hadn't expected such a reaction. He slid into the shadows, just as the thin cloud cover broke. What perfect timing. He heard some of the humans behind him groan and mutter that they wish they had gotten an autograph. After all, those two humans were so beautiful, they had to be models. Human chatter was really very amusing. When it wasn't being stupidly infuriating.
"Well, then let us be off." He gestured widely with his arm towards the ever inviting shade cover of the forest. "You may even hunt, and I may even watch, and may even be very amused. If you don't mind me tagging along of course." He smiled charmingly, his smile fading to a faint grin. "But first..." Ben twisted around, his hand sliding out of the shadows. The light hit it instantly, and his hand began sparkling. Only a couple of people were watching, and Ben had the satisfaction of watching the color drain from their faces. One even looked like they may be seeing their meal again.
