Gotham City - a city thriving with crime. Not even thirty years ago did Thomas Wayne strive to rid crime from the streets. After he and his wife were murdered, all hope for justice within Gotham started to dwindle and fade. The crime families of Gotham took over the city, owning the streets through fear and wealth. Crime had filtered into every part of Gotham - the judicial court, the GCPD, Arkham Asylum and even further. With no one to turn to for help, the citizens of Gotham City appeared to give up.

No more than five years ago did Gotham finally receive the hero it needed. A vigilante known as the Batman flew through the night, stopping criminals and locking up crime lords. When the head of the League of Shadows threatened the very existence of Gotham City, the Batman was there to stop him. For years after that, the citizens of Gotham let the vigilante fight the streets at night to protect them. Criminals fled at the sight of the Bat Signal. Every night, James Gordon shining it into the skies, warning those who lurked that the Batman would soon find them. The crime families of Gotham became fearful, hiding undergrounds and dealing business during the day. Gotham had also received another hero, district attorney Harvey Dent. His enthusiasm for justice shone like a beacon of light. Criminals were being locked up left and right. When the crime heads had been squeezed for everything they were worth, they turned to a man they did not understand - the Joker. The city turned against their hero as the Joker killed countless people and even burned Harvey Dent, demanding that the Batman reveal his face. The Joker had even managed to turn Harvey Dent, the White Knight of Gotham, to the life of crime. The Batman was pushed to his limits, even having Gotham City turn against him. Knowing that Gotham still needed a hero, he took the blame for Dent's murders. Commission Gordon knew what had to be done. He announced to the city that the murders of police officials and Harvey Dent were all the faults of the Batman. The hunt for the Dark Knight had begun.

It has been over a year since the Joker had been locked up and Harvey Dent killed. The City of Gotham has been returning into its dark state. The crime families have once again risen to power, starting to take control of the city. People are turning to the life of crime once again. The Batman can still be spotted fighting crime at night but his sightings are become fewer. A number of new wack job criminals have found their way to the streets of Gotham. There have even been new vigilantes seen fighting off crime. What will happen to Gotham next is anybody's guess.
