it's just text book stuff
There there baby it's just text book stuff it's in the ABC of growing up Now now darling oh don't kill yourself cause none of us were angels and you know I love you yeah it's ok by me.. it's ok by me.. it's ok by me..it was a long time ago
It had been four months since the fateful night Esme had thrown herself off the cliff in mourning for her dead child. Things had changed dramatically since then and most defiantly not how she had expected it to. When she first felt the burning that coursed through her veins she thought that she was being rejected from heaven for committing a sin and taking her own life. But what had happened was she had been given another chance. She was reborn into something much greater and she hoped now that she could do some good in the world. Esme’s human view of the world had been poor; everything she had deemed as beautiful in the world vanished when she was subjected to physical abuse by Charles. Her world had darkened beyond that when Thomas her baby boy had died of a lung infection only a few days after she’d given birth to him.
But all that was in the past, she told herself and although the faint human memories troubled her, she had so many things to concentrate on and learn that she often didn’t find the time to think on those gloomy things.
Esme was sat gingerly on the edge of the chair by the fire, she was still finding it difficult to control her movement so she didn’t harm the furniture and she feared that Dr Cullen and Edward would start to get annoyed when she broke yet another piece of furniture. She’d accepted the change quite easily; she wasn’t one to question things and now she was trying to make the most of her new life. Only it was hard, she was hungry often and the animals Carlisle took her to hunt just didn’t seem to satisfy her.
That was another subject that had been on her mind this past month. Carlisle. She knew she’d always had a soft spot for him. Her only really clear human memory was of him treating her broken leg at the small family cottage she shared with her mother and father. Then she hadn’t failed to notice his good looks and kind manner, and now as she spent most of her time in the small house Carlisle shared with Edward she found she spent her days looking forward to the time when he would return from work. Being new born she had yet to venture anywhere were humans maybe. Carlisle had explained that being newborn it was likely she would be unable to control her vampire instincts and kill any human that ventured near her. But what she had come to realise was that she was slowly falling inlove with the kind doctor.
Esme gazed into the fire as it consumed a log and crackled, they didn’t really need the fire, the cold or heat didn’t affect them in anyway but Esme had lit it because she felt it made the cottage seemly more homely. She picked up the book from her lap and slowly turned the page. She was waiting for Carlisle to return from work, Edward was somewhere nearby, she wasn’t sure what he was doing though.
As soon as she’d met Edward she had taken to him, her first impressions of him were that he was a very cautious young man and she admired how well he had accepted her into his life. As she had been told, it was a vary dangerous thing if humans discovered that vampires exist and she was grateful to Edward for letting her stay and learn to exist safely as a vegetarian vampire.
She turned the page as she thought about this, the book groaned as she realised she’d nearly destroyed the binding of the book. She nervously dropped the book on the table by the chair hoping she hadn’t done too much damage but at that point the table creaked and collapsed in a heap on the floor. Esme’s eyes widened in shock, she’d barely even touched the thing. Damn it! She thought as she glanced wildly about, how was she going to explain this? What if they grew sick of her and threw her out? She just couldn’t keep destroying their home like this.
Esme stood up, running her fingers through her hair as she debated cleaning up and then bringing it up later. Although if Edward was paying any attention to her thoughts he would most likely already know what she’d done.

The watch is like the universe – it is too complex to have just happened by chance. It is impossible therefore to suppose that the universe had come about without the agency of a ‘universe maker’...God- William Paley.
Edward was deep in thought, heavily concentrating on reading Paleys input into the teleological argument- in simpler terms the design argument. These arguments always fascinated him, the explanations some of these people came up with astounded him. Natural Theology containing his two seperate parts to the argument: Design qua purpose, and design qua regularity gripped his attention. "Some may call it sad... i just call it having an eternity of to much time on my hands," he muttered grinning to himself. Reading these arguments to why people believe there was a God, in this case a necessary being which caused and controlled everything contingent into motion, the precision of the world around him showing evidence of design, something like this couldn't have happened by chance. This thought always puzzled Edward, that is why he read this section of philosophy over and over, if there was a great designer as these people argued then there must be a "telos"- an end goal for him being here. "Me and Carlisle were not... and Esme were not accidents, mutilations of nature if their arguments are correct," he had corrected himself. He was still getting used to having Esme around. At first he was warily, and to put it bluntly a little pissed about Carlisle creating another vampire, yet that feeling had faded in less than a second when he saw why he'd done it. The feeling totally vanished when he heard Esme's thoughts, he no longer felt an aversion to her. She was good, real good, pure good. She didn't want to be a monster. It had been a long time since Edward had had a close female influence on his life, and he was beginning to see Esme as a mother figure to him. Even though it had only been four months. "Hmm i wonder if she's managed to break anything else," he remembered, chortling to himself. He was getting rather good at muting the distant buzz of thoughts. His gift came in handy, but some things he did not want to hear. Esme's death and situation before including the baby he thought was to private to evesdrop on, it was only decent to avoid listening as much as possible. Edward burst into loud gwuffling laughter, he couldn't help it. He knew it might upset her so he set his book down and wandered into the front room, finding her rooted on the spot currently debating on hiding the evidence and how to tell them later. He stood there, took one look at the table, and the book on the floor then up to her shocked face. "Erm mum... he froze, he'd never called her that before and it had just slipped out. If he'd been human he'd probably have blushed deep scarlett then buried himself in a hole. Though the first option was not possible, the second still was. All he needed was a shovel. "Esme..." he corrected himself giving her a friendly apologetic smile. He knew that accidently calling her mum could distress her what with the baby... thats the last thing he wanted "Im not sure if anyone told you but... books are supposed to go ON the table, not through it," chuckling under his breath. "Come on lets clear this up before Carlisle comes home, we'll tell him it was my fault. " giving her an earnest and reassuring smile. tag: esme and carlisle listening to: dream street- i miss you wordcount:595 notes: la la la friday nighttt! It was all well and good to say she could clear the broken table up, and explain later what had happened, Esme realized she had no idea were the broom was kept or were she’d put the remnants of the table. Just wonderful, she thought sadly gazing at the broken pieces of the table.
"Erm mum...”
Esme hadn’t heard Edward enter; her mind had been on the broken table. She gazed at him with surprise as he called her ‘mum’ almost doing a double take at Edward, she noticed he was embarrassed with the mistake and she returned his apologetic smile with a warm beam. Esme didn’t know it yet but Edward was soon to fill the gap that baby Thomas had left in her heart when he’d passed away. She was surprised that Edward would accidentally call her mum, she understood from what Carlisle had told her that his mother had died shortly before Carlisle changed Edward. He must be missing a mother figure, she thought.
"Im not sure if anyone told you but... books are supposed to go ON the table, not through it," chuckling under his breath. "Come on lets clear this up before Carlisle comes home, we'll tell him it was my fault."
Esme looked sadly at the remnants, “I’m sorry Edward, I’m just finding it difficult, I forget my strength” she said with embarrassment, “Oh I couldn’t ask you to do that for me Edward, I will tell him, I wouldn’t want you to be in trouble for my mistake.” She said running her hands through her hair, she knelt down to retrieve the book from the rubble, at least she thought meekly her mistake had made Edward laugh. She liked to see him happy, she had noticed he tended to lock himself away with his books a lot and she wondered if he was lonely.
“Do you have a broom or something we can sweep this up with?” she asked worriedly as she checked the clock. She was annoyed she’d done this she’d nearly made it two days without breaking something and she had so wanted to please Carlisle with her progress. If she didn’t get any better she’d be stuck in this cottage forever and Esme was already growing restless after four months of being here. She was permitted to leave and venture into the forests nearby but she had to be supervised encase a human were to wander nearby.
Carlisle would be arriving back soon and she didn’t want him to return to the mess she had made. She ran her hands down her dark blue dress nervously, why couldn’t she do anything right? Esme didn’t have much self-confidence, and often became annoyed with herself if she failed at something. It wasn’t surprising though, after years of abuse it knocked her self-confidence greatly and she found even after the change she was still very wary about herself and still apprehensive of men. Of course she had learnt quickly that she needn’t fear Carlisle or Edward who were both very gentle souls.

Walking out of the Hospital Carlisle glanced around the streets. Only a handful of people roamed about, scatteres here and there, talking about non-important things like dinner and what they wer going to wear the next day. It was annoying to him, espically because those random things were what got a lot of people hurt. They would slice a hand cutting the tomatoes, or get mugged while walking home from shopping for a special date. If he had a penny for every kitchen or shopping accident he had ever treated he would be a rich man. Or richer than he already was.
Now he started his walk home. No, he did not have a car as Edward did. He found them a waste of money, but he was going to have to aquire one soon. Housing was being built farther and farther away from the main towns now and it would look funny if he was walking eight miles home every day. As it was he had to walk about twenty miles now, but none of his collegues knew that. They all thought he lived just on the far end of town.
So, as soon as he was sure no one was around he took off into a run. He would reach his house in about ten minutes, give or take a few seconds, and he would get to see Esme. He kept his toughts careful around Edward as he wanted his private thoughts to stay private, and he did not want Esme to be intimidated. He was falling for her. Falling HARD. But if he moved too fast or told her he would not know how she would react. Until then he would keep it quiet.
Now his home came into view and he could hear voices coming from inside. Edward was talking about taking the blame for something, and Esme was refusing to let him. Then as she mentioned a broom he knew that she had broken something. Laughing silently to himself he made his way noisly up the steps and onto the porch as to let them know he was home. Letting himself in he paused after he took his jacket, which was for decoration only, off and hung it on the coat rack. Trying to sound as composed as he could while trying, but failing to hide a smile and chuckle, he looked at the mess.
"So, what do we have here?"

Edward looked over to where Esme was stood, she looked quite shaken, alarmed. Almost like she was going to get in trouble. This confused Edward, he'd always been careful not to pay vast attention to Esme's thoughts after the initial meeting where he had concluded that she was no threat. His curiousity... maybe curiosity isnt the right word to describe what Edward was feeling, concern overwhelmed him. He didn't understand why she would feel alarmed, it was only a table. His eyes opened wide when he discovered about Esme's past, abuse, low self confidence. He felt a surge of anger. How could anyone do that to someone as pure as Esme. "Esme, i promise you its ok. You have nothing to worry about. It is only a table, honestly, don't worry. I will tell Carlisle it was me if it is worrying you, but Esme you could knock this whole city to the ground and he wouldn't think badly of you, let alone..." he trailed off his eyes casted downwards trying to control the surges of emotion he felt. It wasn't easy, and he imagined it wouldn't be easy for Carlisle either to control his hatred for this Charles Evenson, especially with him being alive, and probably still looking for her. He put a reassuring hand on Esme's shoulder, bringing his gaze up to meet her own. Carlisle was very careful with his thoughts around Edward, yet Edward wasn't stupid. It wasn't just minds that he needed to read people, the body language around each other was plainly obvious and occasionally when Carlisle gazed at Esme he let his thoughts slip. A slight smile appeared on his face, Carlisle was exactly the type of man that someone like Esme needed. “I’m sorry Edward, I’m just finding it difficult, I forget my strength” she said with embarrassment, “Oh I couldn’t ask you to do that for me Edward, I will tell him, I wouldn’t want you to be in trouble for my mistake. "Here you sit down Esme, carefully i dont think we could disguise a broken chair as well especially since he's almost here, ill clean up down worry. I'll say i was being careless and tripped over while heavily ingrossed in the book... not very believable but you never know," he smiled kindly at Esme. His head pricked up slightly, Carlisle was nearly home, and just as Edward expected his acute hearing had picked up the whole plot and conspiracy. "Darn it, we've been busted!" he whispered to Esme, just as the door was flung open and there in the door way stood Carlisle. "So, what do we have here?" Edward could see that he was joking, well because he knew Carlisle so well now and maybe the mind reading helped a tiny bit. Edward grinned up at Carlisle from where he was picking up the pieces of destroyed wood. "Erm i sat on the table... to many mountain lions i think," he shrugged trying not to allow the laughter bubbling up his chest escape. wordcount: 500 [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Esme blinked at Edward, with confusion, she didn’t think she’d let on that strongly how worried she was. It took her a minute to member that Edward could read thoughts, it was strange to her, that peoples traits as a human would also become super enhanced like their other abilities. Esme herself didn’t think she had anything that had become even stronger; well accept for her ability to destroy pieces of furniture.
She smiled weakly at Edward, “that’s very kind of you” she said “you shouldn’t think of me in such a way though Edward, I might disappoint you” she said sadly, she tended to do that with people.
"Here you sit down Esme, carefully i dont think we could disguise a broken chair as well especially since he's almost here, ill clean up down worry. I'll say i was being careless and tripped over while heavily ingrossed in the book... not very believable but you never know,"
Esmes eyes widened as she sat slowly on the chair, he was nearly here! And they hadn’t even tidied yet, damn her inability to not break things! She listened carefully to Carlisle’s footsteps outside the house, “Thank you Edward” she repeated wearily as she tried to compose herself so she didn’t look like a complete wreak when Carlisle entered. If she hadn’t been so worried about the table she probably would have laughed at Edwards’s jokes but she couldn’t help but wonder if he was going to be mad.
"Darn it, we've been busted!" he whispered to Esme, just as the door was flung open and there in the door way stood Carlisle. "So, what do we have here?" Edward could see that he was joking, well because he knew Carlisle so well now and maybe the mind reading helped a tiny bit.
Esme glanced nervously at Edward, before Carlisle entered the house, he seemed very relaxed as he hung his coat up and looked at them both. Esme tried to relax, Edward had assured her things would be ok and Carlisle didn’t seem too mad. Esme looked at Edward smiling and she herself smiled weakly as she listened to his excuse. She shook her head “I expect you’ve already worked out what happened” she said slowly, “Although in my defence, your table wasn’t very sturdy” she said, dropping her gaze to the floor, she was embarrassed by her mistake, she would be even more embarrassed if the two of them started making fun of her mistakes.

Carlisle was listening to Edward and looking at him, but his mind was on the petite vampire sitting in the chair across the room. He knew she was trying to school her features, but she still looked like a child caught stealing candy. It was so cute that for a moment his thoughts wandered. Quickly gaining composure of himself again he looked back at Edward.
"Erm i sat on the table... to many mountain lions i think,"
He laughed at this comment, but could not hear Esme laughing with them. Looking back at her he saw that her expression had become uncomfortable. "Edward... lets not joke anymore. Esme looks a bit worried." He didnt so much as glance at his companion as he thought the words to him, but he watched tha changes in emotion on Esme's face closly. Then she spoke.
“I expect you’ve already worked out what happened” she said slowly, “Although in my defence, your table wasn’t very sturdy”
Moving at a human walk out of habit he went over to where she sat. When she dropped her gaze he had become a bit worried himself, and knowing her past meant that she was probably thinking about what Charles would do if he was here. Carlsile had been curious about why she would throw herself off a cliff and had investigated into the underlying causes. When he had found out that she had been beaten it took all of his self control not to go a rip the mans head off. Nothing had made him as mad as he had been at that moment in over 200 years. That was saying something.
Once he was in front of her he knealt down and tried to look at her face which was still lowered. Gently putting a finger under her chin he raised her eyes up to meet his.
"Esme, I want you to listen to me. I dont care about that table. In fact I dont care about any of the furniture. We have more than enough money to replace anything that gets broken."
He noticed that he had said 'We' as if she would be styaing for a long time. In reality he was hoping that she would stay forever, but if she wanted to leave, if she found someone else to love, he would let her go. Putting that thought out of his mind he smiled gently, and since he had not removed his fingers from her face he slid his thumb gently across her cheek as he stood.
"I know how hard it is to get used to the changes. As time goes on it will get easier, and for as long as you need to be taught, Edward and I will be here to teach you."
Backing up a few steps he went to a small closet and grapped a broom and dustpan. He handed to dustpan to Esme and he took the broom for himself, and then, without having to say a word he told Edward to get the biggest pieces and to carry them out to the trash.
"Lets get to work on getting this cleaned up."

The watch is like the universe – it is too complex to have just happened by chance. It is impossible therefore to suppose that the universe had come about without the agency of a ‘universe maker’...God- William Paley.
Edward chuckled mentally, he didn't want to laugh outloud as he knew this might upset her. He sometimes forgot that people couldn't always hear what he could, people's clear intentions and truthfulness were not always on display, Edward was merely lucky enough to be able to see past it and hear the truth. Esme was fragile, Edward could see it, though after her past she was bound to be. Though human memories fade and become less defined the ones that Esme had experience thus exposing Edward to made him physically cringe. He didn't understand how one human being could treat another like that, especially not Esme. It seemed that Carlisle was struggling with the feat also, Carlisle- who puts the C in cool. He had never seen Carlisle consider such an action.
He moved backwards away from the coffee table which had been crushed by his apparent "over eating himself on mountain lions to being classed as clinically obese". He saw Carlisle brush his hand across Esme's jaw, he was suddenly bombarded by their minds going into overload. If Edward had been human he was sure his head would have exploded, something along the lines of a pressure tank. If Baddley and Hitches working memory model of the mind was correct, that the brain could only hold and process five, plus or minus two items, then Edward should have the intelligence of a pumpkin. Edward looked away, the moment seemed almost to personal. He didn't want to invade their privacy. To be perfectly honest he didn't really want to know what they were thinking. Though he was 17 give or take a century, his experience in relationships were none. The only one he'd experienced was his parents, and that was just a distant memory, yet this occured to him that his parents had never acted like Esme and Carlisle were. His father spent his days at the bank and the closest they came was when he expected his dinner on the table. He started reciting paragraphs from Paleys book "Paley analogy of the watch was in design qua purpose, his version of the teleological argument..." he murmered so softly that he himself could hear it. Edward was still doing this when he heard Carlisles voice invade through his mental block asking him to help clear up. "Its ok carlisle i'll do it,", he didn't want to interfere with the delicate, tender moment that he had just witnessed. He quickly bent down, careful not to crush the reminants of the obese disaster into dust. That would me he'd have to hang around longer. He tried not to run from the room, his head was puzzled. He'd never felt that way about a girl, he was sure he hadn't. Watching the intensity of the moment and both Carlisle and Esme's frantic thoughts had only confirmed it. Edward threw the dead table into the trash a little harder than necessary. It clanged ominously. He stood there, allowing Carlisle and Esme a brief moment of privacy, yet also he needed to clear his thoughts... would he ever feel that way about a girl? He stood there for a good few minutes disiphering this fact. He wandered back into the house, slowely, almost dragging his feet adding extra noise to let them know he was coming. He didn't meet their eyes when he entered the room, he kept his gaze firmly on the floor. "Carlisle... can i" he hesitated, taking an unecessary deep breath and swallowing a small arsenal of dust motes. "Can we go for a walk... i need to talk to you about... something". wordcount: 597 notess: FINALLY!! hope you enjoy![/blockquote][/blockquote]

Esme’s ears picked up the sound of feet treading slowly across the wooden panelled floor, but she didn’t look up until she felt a gentle hand under her chin and she allowed for the owner of the hand to raise her head. She found herself looking into the dark blue eyes of Carlisle Cullen, she felt as if she’d fallen into some strange dream, she half heard what he said to her as she found herself loosing all sense of reality. All she could do was gaze into those entrancing eyes that held so many mysteries. As she felt his thumb trace her cheek her eyes fluttered closed, all to soon he’d backed up leaving Esme speechless. She struggled to organise her thoughts but her mind kept flicking back to that brief moment of contact between the two of them.
The conversation that continued between Edward and Carlisle went straight over her head and she only registered the fact the two had left the room. Get it together Esme! She snapped to herself as she stood up and started pacing the room. You cant just turn into a bumbling idiot every time he speaks to you, other wise he’s going to think you have more issues than just being incredibly clumsy and an over emotion female. She shook her head violently running her hands through her hair as her mind wandered back to that moment, however her imagination took over and she found herself visualizing the situation in even more detail.
She wandered into the kitchen; it was never used only there for show but she’d spent the morning collecting flowers and putting them in vases around the kitchen. She adjusted the flowers as her thoughts became slightly ambitious…
Esme was jogged out of her very pleasant scenario by a loud banging on the front door. She jumped violently before walking slowly to the door that lead to the front hall.
“ESME ANNE EVENSON” shouted a loud voice before the banging started again, “OPEN THIS DOOR!” Esme blinked with shock, no one called her Evenson, non of her living friends had not after she’d run away they all referred to her with her maiden name Platt. “I KNOW YOUR IN THERE!” cried the voice as the banging grew louder. It clicked in Esmes head to whom the voice belonged to, she had a distant memory of that harsh voice and Esme flinched in fear. Esme clung to the wall, as she tried to work out what to do, she could open the door and face the biggest fear of her human life or she could run outside and get Carlisle and Edward to help her deal with him. How on earth did he find her?!
Esme stood frozen; she couldn’t pick the courage up to move from the spot by the door. “Carlisle…” the words came out in a low choke, she was too terrified to shout them and a strange sobbing noise escaped her throat. If she was human the tears would have been falling down her face in torrents only she couldn’t seem to cry, all that happened was her chest hurt and chokes of fear escaped her.
Before Esme had time to build up her courage the door crashed to the floor and a figure of a man could just be seen in the doorway. Now Charles wasn’t a bad looking man, he was quite tall and very well built, it was easy to see why he’d charmed Esme’s parents so well while he was courting her. Esme’s eyes widened with fear as he saw her stood by the wall, “Esme?” he said slight surprise upon his face as he took in his wife’s new appearance, “Where’s the baby?” he demanded looking around the room wildly, “You have no right to leave and take my child! Damn it woman!” he shouted another wave of anger building up as he approached her…
“DAMN YOU WOMAN!” Charles cried as he stood over Esme who was huddled in the corner of the room. “Why couldn’t you be more careful! You know we can’t afford to feed another mouth not with this war, everything we had is gone!” Charles took another swig of whiskey as he glared at her, “Well you have no reason to deny me now at least” he spat grabbing Esme by the arm as she cowered away from him, this angered him even more as he slapped her across the face and everything went black…
Esmes eyes flashed with anger as this human memory came back to her and it was at that fateful moment a gust of wind blew in through the door. Esme had never smelt anything like it the scent was entrancing, it swamped the stench of whiskey that was usually promonant in his odor. All she wanted to do was taste the scent that screamed ‘EAT ME’. The next thing she knew she’d thrown herself across the room at Charles…

The watch is like the universe – it is too complex to have just happened by chance. It is impossible therefore to suppose that the universe had come about without the agency of a ‘universe maker’...God- William Paley.
Edward hurried away, down the cobbled street, he knew Carlisle followed. His eyes cast downwards studying each intricate detail of the almost delicate cobbles underneath his feet. It is would take is one moment of anger, a lack of self control and that cobble would be crushed into dust. He was sure that the locals wouldn't buy his excuse of to many mountain lions this time-for sure. He felt people glance at him, he never got self consious anymore, people thought their family was strange anyway. From the sounds of things they were only paying detail to the insignificant aspects, what he was wearing, the structure of his jaw line, Carlisles cheek bones. He sighed, this frustrated him even further. These women looked at him and Carlisle and thought they were attractive, more than attractive. He would have no trouble finding a women... yet he didn't want to. He didn't and had never seen a women from the aspect he saw others do. He checked behind him, he had ventured far enough from the small house into the woods, he ran. He ran and ran, venting all his frustration, he had forgotten about Carlisle for a brief moment of time, yet he hadnt forgotten the way him and Esme had looked at eachother. Or the way they thought about eachother. He stopped as quickly as he had shot into the woods, and waited. A deep sigh escaped his chest, he would not turn to face Carlisle. His hands gave a slight shake, as he stood there glaring at the oak tree infront of him, cursing even the bleeding millipeeds crawling over, even they had a partner! What was he? Some kind of reject. "Carlisle..." he began slowely, wondering how to word this, he leant forward placing his hand on the tree, he squeezed his figures, the oak crushed under his grasp. "We'll have to blame this on a radioactive squirell this time, i don't think they'll believe a radioactive beaver theres no stream," he sighed. It was amazing the excuses they had come up with over the years. "I don't feel for anyone, like you do Esme..." it wasnt a question it was merely a statement. "I never have done, no even as a human... i don't understand why... is there something wrong with me," he kept his back of Carlisle listening. Edward suddenly remembered Esme, he hoped she wasn't upset, she might have put two and two together and gotten five. That they were going to talk about her, badly. He listened quiety. The was a large bang from the village, well by large acute vampire senses could hear it. It sounded merely like a door being kicked in. "Probably one of the blacksmiths horses breaking free again..." he murmered to Carlisle, casting his mind back to Esme. “ESME ANNE EVENSON” he stiffened in shock, he recognized that voice from memories. Her memories. The next thing he saw was a clear memory of her abuse, it was him he was hurting her. "open the door now", then it clicked. The door was their door. He was here. A fierce snarled ripped his throat, he heard Esme's mind, he insticts hadn't kicked in yet, she was afraid... very afraid. Another snarled ripped his throat as he experienced second hand the rage he was displaying to Esme. "Carlisle, we have a major issue, picked up a run, leaving his voice trailing back to Carlisle. "HE'S THERE, HE'S IN THE HOUSE WITH HER!". He knew he didnt have to tell him who, he would know. wordcount: 587 [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Carlisle let Edward lead him out away from the house, following behind at a steady pace. It was when Edward stopped and would not look at him that he began to worry. Moving closer to his companion he was about to lay a hand on his shoulder but held back instead. Physical contact was not the best option here. He would just listen and wait for Edward to turn to him, or give him something that he could help fix. For now he waited as Edward talked.
"Carlisle... I don't feel for anyone, like you do Esme..." it wasnt a question it was merely a statement. "I never have done, no even as a human... i don't understand why... is there something wrong with me,"
That was when Carlsile knew that Edward had caught the intimate thoughts he had been thinking in the house. It wasnt like they were bad thoughts, just private. With a mind reading vampire living with you though you eventually got used to having no privacy. Moving closer this time he did lay a hand on his shoulder.
"There is nothing wrong with you. This is the first time I have felt this strongly for anyone, and it took me over three hundred years to reach this point." He chuckled at this point. "Oh lord, Im getting old."
But at this point he heard the banging, and he heard the shouting at the same time Edward did. His reaction was immediate. Taking off at vampire speed he followed Edward who was already gone. Nothing would happen to Esme, of course, her being a vampire and him being a human, but it was the thought of that man in the same room with her that made his blood boil. Metaphorically speaking. Covering the distance to his home faster than he thought he could he slowed just in time to see Esme launch herself across the room.
Without thinking he found himself in the air also, and in less than a second the sound of colliding boulders sounded through the air. Wrapping his arms around Esme and using them as manacles he threw his entire weight onto her. Twisting around so that as they landed with his body on top he immediately began to pull her out of the room in a desperate attempt to stop her from doing something she might regret.
It was a vain act as she was newborn and could easily rip him apart. But it was the fact that she might recognize him, might realize what she was doing. She might be able to stop, no matter how improbable it was. It was a long shot, but if stopping her meant serious injury to himself he knew it would be worth it.
"Esme, listen to me! Please stop!" Carlisle positioned his face so that she could only see him and not Charles. Letting go of her with one hand he covered her mouth and nose. "Hold your breath Esme... please." Then without moving an inch he practically screamed at Edward through his mind. GET THAT GUY OUT OF HERE!!!
