Jane sauntered up the steps. A simple, slightly worn purple dress covered her figure. She looked at the ground for a moment in wonder before moving up the steps and reaching for the doorbell. One thought moved through her brain darkly as she rang it: She couldn't believe she had sunk so low. She waited for a few minutes and then grew bored. It wasn't like she didn't know what she'd probably find in the house. With some distaste she opened the door and pranced in. She didn't expect to find anybody.
Jane dully noted a bench nearby but felt more compelled to move upstairs. A dark smirck placed itself on her features when she saw the human attributes. Finding herself shortly in a kitchen she almost laughed. This was a bit sad but, there was work to do. She checked her facial features into a more pathetic look and found a stool to sit on. The remote for a small T.V. lay nearby and she flipped through the channels, finding herself keenly amused by some soap opera romance. Unfortunately, it reminded her of her own life. The poor main girl was wanting the unattainable guy, who was already interested in someone else. Jane found a tear run down her face and she quckly wiped it away, staring at it in horror. She never thought she'd be the one to be sympathetic. She turned her face back to the screen. somehow, she wanted to change the channel and tried to will herself through to change it but failed. She smiled briefly and eyed the perfectly clean kitchen set up.

OOC / really short, but your post was shorter so I couldn't come up with anything more. from some other planet i get this funky high on a yellow sun boy I bet my friends will all be stunned they're stunned
"Why the hell are you watching soap operas in my living room?"
As soon as she'd asked, Alice figured the question was a little rude. Still, when pretty much your most hated enemy invited herself into your house and watched soap operas - soap operas? what the hell? - manners could be compromised, a little at least. "Sorry, what happened to my manners? I meant to welcome you warmly into my home, although you seem to have done that yourself already." At least she didn't stink. Although, the red eyes were sort of creepy. Fact of life. So many of those dumb high schoolers seemed to think that gold eyes were sickeningly creepy. They hadn't seen nearly the worst of it yet. Jane would kill one of them before they even got the chance to look at her eyes, which were obviously red and contact free. Oh, and they looked sickeningly pathetic, which was one big lie. Jane wasn't remotely pathetic.
Alice perched on the kitchen counter, swinging her legs nonchalantly as if there wasn't a Volturi in her living room, while mentally she screamed at Edward. He'd come son enough - they all would. For now, her ocher gaze was fixed on the tiny, pale girl who still seemed to be watching the television screen. Esme had cleaned the kitchen last night. Non sequittur, perhaps, but true - the crystal plates were all lined up nicely, the tablecloth and napkin rings matched. Matching napkin rings. Who cared enough to make those? Esme, apparently, cared enough to buy them. Alice would have to sort out the blue marbles form her set and only use those - Esme wouldn't be mad if she matched the color scheme.
But there was a Volturi in the house. "How did you get in?" she mused quietly, before figuring that the locked door wasn't really an issue for Jane. Alice herself had come in the back - she leaned over, checking the doorknob, and sure enough it was totally mangled. "Do you plan to replace our doorknob? It would be a nice gesure." As if a nice gesture would ever be something Jane would do.

Jane sighed as Alice Cullen stepped. She figured it'd be best to let the rampage go on for a bit and stared at the screen some more. This was obviously going to be harder than it looked. She had to control everything now, it all relied upon her ability to do so. She shot Alice a gentle look and shrugged.
"It wasn't like anybody was home.....and it's not like I can go back now."
She blankly stared at the floor. Yes, she had run away. The closest to the truth as she could get. She turned back to the T.V. screen darkly, not liking this part of the game. She sighed and looked back towards her outfit, not liking the used look to it. she smoothed her outfit darkly and stared at the ground sadly, keeping an odd look on her face for her. The same episode played again on the T.V. Just like Jane's own personal nightmare. Aro would never see her as anything more than a pet.....and the rest of the world as Volturi. Who would love her? How did she dare to think she could be loved?
If Aro didn't like her than perhaps she didn't like him either. Perhaps she wouldn't obey his stupid rules just to spite him. Perhaps she wouldn't return. Though they all seemed to hate her guts here, at least it was better than being there all the time. Jane smiled to herself darkly. This was simply getting easier for her. She looked up at the vampire present quite clearly. This was an oddly new sensation for her. At least she wouldn't have to worry about any future problems. Her dark eyes narrowed slightly before she checked her expression. It was harder than it looked, everything had to be watched now, regardless of what she thought.

Jasper Whitlock Hale , "You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope."
The wind was picking up, a clear sign that rain was soon to come. That however, was not a speculation that it took a science degree to come too. Jasper smirked, his thoughts drifting momentarily to weathermen, and how easy of a job those that worked in the Pacific Northwest must have. After all, their profession was simple enough as it was. Those who were only right a small percentage of the time, perhaps maybe sixty percent, were considered to be some of the best in their field. Oh the joy that those meteorologists who reported the weather here must have felt. A simple mention of the word rain was enough to guarantee your guesses successful a good ninety percent of the time. For a short period of time, if he remembered correctly it was during the late eighties, Jasper had considered being a meteorologist. That thought had quickly been shot down by Carlisle though, as the camera was definitely not their friend if they wished to remain in hiding.
The day had been dragging by, nothing of importance really to take up his time. He had run to the hospital to speak briefly with Carlisle, having nothing better to do with everyone else out and about. He had hoped that the others would be back by now, although there didn't seem to be anymore cars in the driveway than there had been this morning. As he stepped through the doorway, Jasper could instantly feel that things were not right. He could feel strong emotions from a nearby room, some of them at least belonging to Alice. There was contempt, and anger. These were the emotions that he rarely felt from Alice, that is unless someone was in danger. Without pausing to take off his jacket he stepped into the room, only to see the source of the other emotions, Jane, sitting on the couch. His eyes briefly flickered to the television, where a soap opera was playing. Using his unique ability, Jasper tried to ease the mood a little, hoping to at least make this a tolerable visit. Why Jane was in their home though, he was still unsure. Reaching out to take Alice's hand without a second thought, Jasper offered her a soothing smile, another attempt at keeping her calm. "This could be worse...she could be watching Buffy...God I hate that show."
His attempt at a joke wasn't exactly the best, although it was better than what he was originally going to say. If Alice weren't there, he might have already attacked Jane. After all, she had broken into their home. Not exactly the way to make a good impression. Shaking his head slowly, Jasper couldn't suppress the smile that still lingered on his lips. Europeans...

OOC / vampires can't cry... from some other planet i get this funky high on a yellow sun boy I bet my friends will all be stunned they're stunned
And then Jasper waltzed into the room, and all was well. Sort of.
"Guess what... I think it's going to rain tomorrow," she said as he stepped by her, his cool thick fingers locking between hers. It was a follow-up to the rather exciting conversation they'd had the other night about the stupidity of meteorologists and the glories of baseball, two oft-discussed topics in the Cullen family but intriguing nonetheless. She grinned, despite the Volturi who was still intently watching the soap opera, and whom she was still indescribably pissed at. At least she hadn't broken the window. Last time the window had been broken was when Bella lobbed about fifty thousand dollars in a cardboard box at the house - that had been an exciting homecoming gift. Oh, okay, that was a lie - she and Emmett had broken the window only days before. But that was irrelevant. Because right now, her own personal scarred god was in the same room as potentially the most hated member of the Volturi guard, and things weren't really going to end well. She didn't need a meteorologist's keen predicting ability or even her own to deduce that one. It was elementary. My Watson.
Jasper made some offhand comment about Buffy, and Alice rolled her eyes. Buffy - lamest show in existence, of course. She felt a sort of unnatural wave of calm flooding through her body ad instead of resisting Jasper's gift, took pleasure in it. Relaxation was good, very good. "I'm good," she found herself whispering, which was weird. But then, pretty much everything about this situation was weird. Alice didn't think she'd be too surprised if Emmett randomly showed up and started lobbing Cocoa Puffs at the wall. That was another irrelevant long Emmett story. God, she had so many.
"It wasn't like anybody was home... and it's not like I can go back now."
"Oh, wait, so you think if no one is home it's completely okay to break into their house? Sorry - that's about on par as saying, oh, if someone is alive it's totally okay to gun them down." Her initial reaction flew out of her mouth like a spear, but Alice then took a few seconds to comprehend what exactly it was that Jane was saying. "Wait. So Aro didn't sent you?" She snorted. "Like I believe you." Beside her, Jasper smiled. God, this was weird - not at all like any way she'd ever run into one of the Volturi guard before. She felt strangely happy, and wondered if it was because of Jasper or authentic. She figured it was the former. But still.

Jane looked up at Alice tiredly as the mention of Aro's name came out. Yes, she had been his pet. But, without his acceptance of her as anything else....she didn't want to broach the subject. Jane sighed and looked at the ground again, anything to keep from lunging. She wasn't fond of such a hit, not now, not ever. And this wasn't the best time to go mentioning it. She had better things to waste her breath on.
"He doesn't love me. Aro never did.......okay.....so lay off!"
Jane stiffened considerably and shifted in her seat. Luckily a new soap had come on. It bored her though and she flipped through the channels darkly. The only thing she found on was a re-run of Angel. She sighed minutely and let the show play on the screen. At this point she had stopped caring. She was getting tired of this game....of explaining the whole affair. Maybe it was better she not go back there.
Jane was seized lightly by Jasper's gift. At least that helped her get her thoughts back into order. Jane sighed and stared at him for a second before eyeing the screen. Really, she wasn't planning on flying off the handle like Alice had. She had better things to do. The only guarantee they would get of a fight is if they kept irritating her, somehow she doubted she'd find that the case. She stared blindly ahead, losing the question really posed by Alice. She would have to lie on that one. It was true they wanted her here, partly due to her determination to run off. Maybe they figured they could keep her quiet and content.....avoid her running off. Jane smiled gently. It wasn't like she hadn't expected this.
She turned to look back at the group. Jasper had his arm around Alice, it almost looked like he had been restraining her. Jane stiffened slightly and smoothed her dress. It was easier to show any emotion this way. And at this point she may need it. The act also gave her some distraction. True, she had a pretty nasty temper which she tended to use. However, that didn't mean she was to insipid to not control it as the time alloted. She really didn't want to create some kind of a mess. It's not like they seemed to care about anything except her being there anyway. Sure, she had mangled the door, she sort've regretted that.....not much though. It had looked rather nice, a good add to the house's look. But, then humans could be seen in the same light too. She gave a small smile at her own analogy. It was clever, she'd admit to that.

Stepping quickly out into the parking lot of the hospital, Carlisle walked quickly - or slowly - depending on how you looked at it towards his car. That day at the office had been a weird one.
Two men had come in one with a broken collar bone and the other with a crushed nose resulting from colliding with each other while playing rugby, one little girl had gotten a lego stuck up her nose and he had had to pull it out, and a ten year old boy with temper issued had kicked him -hard for a little kid- in the stomache. He had to feign being hurt from this, but in reality the kid had broken his toe from the impact. That had started up a whole chain of gossip from the nurses, espically the flirtatious ones, about how he must have the most incredible abs. All in all, exhausting. Metaphorically speaking of course.
The dirve home was spent in quiet thought, mostly about Bella and Edward, and their upcoming marriage. If there was to be one that is. It was frustrating to see them at this point, mostly becauuse of the impact it was having on others. With Jacob freaking out over it and the very loose alliance with the werewolves, and not to mention the Volturi, the stress levels around the Cullen home were rising with every moment. Lucky for them that they had Jasper to keep things calmer and had Alice to help figure out when the Volturi would come next.
Speak of the devil.
As he pulled in the long drive to his house a familiar, if not repulsing, scent burned the back of his throat. Stepping on the gas pedal rather hard he flew into the yard not bothering to go to the garage and was out of the car before it seemed to be stopped. Trying to keep calm and not dent his door he went softly into the living room and looked over the scene. There on the couch was none other than Jane, and standing near by was Alice and Jasper. Both seemed a bit tense, but knowing Jasper he was already trying to calm eveyone down. Keeping his eyes on the little Volturi demon Carlisle made his way over to stand next to Jasper.
"Well hello Jane." He paused for a moment shooting Alice a questioning glare. "What brings you to Washington?"
Yeah, it was small talk, but it was all he could manage without snapping at the moment. With work, Edward, Bella, Esme, the wolves, and the Volturi his nerves were frazzled. Adding Jane being in his home to the mix was completely maddening though you would never know it by just looking at him. Jasper on the other hand would be getting the brunt of the emotions and would hopefully get the message to send a bit more calmness into the room.

Jasper Whitlock Hale , "You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope."
Few people actually realized how much stress Jasper was under while trying to keep everyone else's emotions in check. The price that he paid for his gift was great, requiring that he deal with all of their emotions at once, on top of his own. He had been handling everything fairly well, at least he had thought as much. That however, had been before Carlisle entered the room. He was easily dealing with more stress than most of the others in the house. Everything was on his mind, and Jasper could feel as much. He couldn't quite pick out what it was that was particularly nagging at him, but something was bothering him far more than it usually would. Trying his best to calm everyone down (again), Jasper glanced once more at the television. Oh dear god... It seemed as if his comment about Buffy had been premature, and he could feel the emotion coming off of Alice. She must have known Angel would come on. Just like her to see something inconsequential like this ,yet annoying all the same. Stepping casually across the room, Jasper unplugged the television, barely pausing to look at anyone as he retook his place alongside Alice and Carlisle.
Jane was an intruder into their home. She had let herself in, much to his dismay, and for some odd reason she felt as if she had the right to sit here and watch television? Jasper might have allowed it. Despite all of his problems with this situation, he might have allowed it...had she at least watched something slightly interesting. Squeezing Alice's hand gently, Jasper scooted a little closer too her, his mind put at ease by her presence alone. It was funny, how Edward was so wrapped up with his interest in Bella. He presumed that he was the only one to have felt that way, the attachment. A part of his thought process could have been due to the fact that Rosalie and Emmett definitely did not have that same sort of connection. It was ironic that for someone who could read minds, Edward was so blissfully ignorant about the fact that Jasper cared for Alice in much the same way. Their relationship however, had simply reached a further level, to the point that they no longer needed to express their emotions verbally. A mere look was all it would take, and both of them knew exactly what the ther was thinking.
He had allowed his thoughts to drift away from the situation at hand, and for a moment he felt a pang of guilt. Jane deserved his full attention, and he planned on giving it too her. Listening as Carlisle spoke, Jasper sighed. Leave it to Carlisle to try and be hospitable, even in this, the most torturous of circumstances. How he managed it Jasper would never know. Stifling a laugh, Jasper offered both Carlisle and Alice a smile before turning back to Jane. "It's the weather isn't it? Why else would you be here."

Post by Esme Cullen on May 4, 2009 18:33:08 GMT -5
Visitor
Esme had spent the day lost in a home department store, it was a habit of hers that most of the Cullen family was used to. She had got a taxi there as Carlisle was working and unable to drive her to town, Esme had certain reluctance when it came to driving. She had spent the morning on the kitchen floor, and had purchased several new dinner sets. Of course being vampires they really didn’t need dinner sets but Esme was rather fond of them, and they made rather attractive props. During the afternoon she wandered through the other floors, pausing in the baby section she watched enviously at the new mums and dads as they purchased prams and cots. How badly she wanted to be in their situation, she had been once, but sadly it hadn’t ended the way a mother would hope. Esme didn’t often think on it but now and again when she saw a mother and child the distant memories would stir in her mind.
Esme caught a taxi home the boot of the taxi filled with useless but very attractive props for their home. Her mind was buzzing with new ideas for the kitchen as the taxi pulled up to the house so her ears didn’t pick up the conversation going on inside the Cullen home. The driver helped her unload the bags and she paid him generously.
Taking the bags she made her way up the steps pausing at the already open door her eyes fell on the mangled handle. Emmett. “Emmett how have you managed to destroy three door knobs this week?” she called as she dropped the bags in the doorway to inspect the handle. Yep, it would need replacing, well at least it was a door handle and not her dining table, she thought with relief. She paused to listen for a reply but instead she picked up the strained voices of her family.
She frowned and picked up the bags entering the living room wondering what all the commotion was about. Her eyes went from Carlisle who was looking incredibly tense to Alice and Jasper and then to Jane. Jane?!? Alarms bells rang in her head as she drifted towards Carlisle, forgetting she was still carrying the products of her day in the store. She looked questioningly at Carlisle, but didn’t speak; she didn’t know what to say.

Wanting to close his eyes and dissolve into thin air wass about the only thing Carlsile could think about at the moment. He was at wits end and it would not take much to make him snap right now. Eyeing the tiny member of the Volturi he made a mental note to get Alice to watch for this kind of thing in the future. If anyone, human or vampire, ever broke into his house again he might just forget about the whole compassion thing he was trying to hold onto and kill someone. Okay, not literally, but it was a thought.
Then the worst possible thing that could happen for his nerves happened at that moment. A wisecrack from Jasper. Saying that he was not in the mood for a joke at the moment was a dangerous understatement and the look that Jasper recieved from him was nothing short of murderous. As soon as he did this though he did close his eyes to try and realx wishing that Edward was there at the moment, or Emmett, so that he could leave and find Esme. If Esme had shown up he probably would haved gone over the edge and...
Then the sound of a taxi pulling into the home registered in his brain bringing with it the familiar sound of her voice. Standing amazingly still, even for a vampire, he clenched his teeth and stopped breathing. He tried to clear everything from his mind, unsucessfully I might add, and when she asked about the door handle he finally snapped back to reality. Looking to the doorway he was seriously debating grabbing his wife and making a run for it. But the thought of leaving his family alone was heartwrenching so he opted for grinding his teeth.
In came Esme, shopping bags still in hand, and as she made her way over to him he placed the bags on the floor -gently for someone feeling as tense as he did- and he pulled her close to his side, his arm protectively around her waist. While concentrating on looking relaxed to Jane he never realized how tense his arm around Esme was, or how many mixed emotions were swirling around him. Anger, fear, compassion, dread, aniexiety, and to many more to count. Finally gaining control of his voice so that it had not even the slightest hint of irritation and so that it sounded perfectly normal to everyone, including Esme who knew him so well, he spoke once again to Jane.
"When you return to Aro, which I expect will be soon, send my regards. I havnt seen my old friend in quite some time now."

OOC / none. but I traded my dreams for this mess of memories and they just stopped working for me
"He doesn't love me. Aro never did, okay, so lay off!"
"Whoah, that is some twisted logic there," Alice snapped. "You break into my house and yell at me for insulting you, which I never really actually did? And I'm not understanding this Aro thing, so could you clarify? I would say I hate him as much as you do, but last I checked, you were pretty tight with him." Alice wasn't quite sure where this new degree of feistiness had come from, but it was sort of fun, in a sick way, to egg Jane on. Jane, who didn't really seem like she was about to use her gift and was in this weak, odd position. The roles were sort of switched, and Alice liked it very much. She shot a glance at Jasper, assuming he was in on this, assuming he was at least partially responsible for the adrenaline rush. But maybe he wasn't. He knew she was perfectly capable of managing her own emotions and didn't often mess with her.
"Carlisle in. And I'm fine," she bit out as he walked past her, figuring Jane had probably heard but not really caring. Eavesdropper. Sure enough, Carlile waltzed through the doorway, pale and proud, and instantly started the whole Carlisle-father-hospitable thing, which made Alice laugh. "She broke in, Carlisle. I think we can be a little rude, don't you? Or I could go fix a salad." The last words came out in a hiss, pointed at Jane, but Alice was completely in control of herself, and Jane wasn't about to lash out. If Carlisle snapped, it would be a problem. She shot another glance at Jasper and Carlisle seemed to relax, but maybe that was just her. Whatever. Nothing that bad was going to happen, not today.
Another figure floated into her peripheral, a peripheral no one else in the room could see. "Esme. Mad about the door - you better fix that, you," she sneered again as Esme wandered in, complaining about the door and wandering towards Carlisle, wanting to be totally protected by him. Esme was great and all, but there was no way she would ever put up a fight, ever. Too peaceful and innocent and almost weak, like she depended on everyone else so much that she didn't have anything left in her to fend for herself. Upon her arrival, Carlisle stiffened, drawing an arm across her chest. The look in his eyes let Alice know exactly what he was thinking.
"Hey. Chill. She's not going to attack us, okay, Carlisle? Granted, she's not exactly here for some tea and scones, but trust me. And in the off chance that she decides to make a wrong move, three of us will still be standing. And Emmett's coming home. Relax. Please." She grinned at Jasper again. "I found her watching soap operas. I think she has something to say, although I haven't quite been able to decipher it. But I'm interested. And then we can evict her."

"When you return to Aro, which I expect will be soon, send my regards. I havnt seen my old friend in quite some time now."
Jane's eyes snapped towards Carlsisle. The tense atmosphere sent a cold chill up her spine. Jane never really approved of being here, she never approved of having been sent here.....and yet here she was. The begger, the cryer, the one that everyone would rather see drop dead than wonder if she was speaking the truth. And furthermore, Jane couldn't blame them. Aro hadn't factored this in, he just assumed she'd take care of the problem. Once more he failed to see how smart she really was. She had suggested the other members, with her record this might not go over well. And yet, none of them seemed to get this. Probably all trying to save their necks. Jane sighed, it was times like these she felt the need to hunt.
She had no choice but to suppress such an urge. It wasn't pretty. The need to hunt, and not to mention the desire to snap their necks was rather strong. Jane didn't want to believe she couldn't curb her temper long enough to avoid the collision course that would end in catastraphe. Jane still had some trumps in her deck, the only question was how to play them. She turned child-esque eyes up to the others sadly.
"Who says I can go back?"
She knew this wouldn't go over well. And yet she wore the mask she'd carved for herself since she set foot in the house. She musn't break, at least not that way. Her emotions helped her aim to look meek and pitiful. She had to try every card before she would fail. And she held some hope that she might be luckier than she thought. She caught sight of her reflection in the glass window out of the corner of her eye. She did have to hand it to herself....she knew how to act.
The sad looking child gazing back at her was perfect. Just the right amount of real pain infused her face. Now, all it took was for them to buy it. She quickly averted her eye from the glass, so as to avoid them noticing. And mentally, though she hadn't done this for years, uttered a prayer. She coul only hope she might get lucky this time.
