Radioactive Spiders and Kryptonite
I think I forgot to breathe
FULL NAME: Esme Anne Cullen NICKNAMES: Esme has never really had a nickname although she is often called ‘mum’ or ‘mother’ by her adoptive children. AGE: Physical age 26 but is around a century old. BIRTHDAY: 1st June 1895 SEXUALIY: Straight JOB: Housewife SPECIES: Vegetarian Vampire CANON:Yes
I’m nothing but a human, after all. Nothing special.
GENERAL APPEARANCE:
Esme like all other vampires has shockingly pale white skin, which to a human appears flawless. When in the sunlight her skin sparkles magnificently like marble stone in the sunlight only a thousand times more stunning. She is ice cold to any human who may come in contact with her skin but to any other vampire she is just the average temperature. Her human eye colour was a deep brown however being a vampire when she’s fed she has golden eyes, when she’s hungry her large round eyes fade to black and purple rings appear under her eyes as her hunger grows.
Esme has a heart shaped face, which is rather ironic for someone who loves as passionately as Esme does. She is a lot rounder than the others as she was changed into a vampire shortly after giving birth and therefore has a very womanly figure. When she smiles she flashes shockingly white teeth and two dimples appear on either side of her cheeks adding to the compassionate aura that surrounds her. She has deep red lips that often make people think of her as ‘snow white’ and she rather likes how unnaturally red her lips are for a vampire. Showers of caramel coloured locks fall over her shoulders curling at the tips to give her a wholesome ‘too perfect to be real’ look that many vampires carry.
Esme is quite happy wearing a comfy pair of jeans and a shirt or jumper, but of course with Alice in the house, that thought has never been put into course. She finds her wardrobe stocked with fitted jeans, shirts and designer tops as well as high waisted skirts and many different types of shoe. Alice is very talented at knowing what sort of clothing Esme would go for keeping her wardrobe ‘mumsy’ but nice at the same time.
MOST LIKED FEATURE:
Her Flawless Skin:
Growing up as a human Esme always worried about her skin, she often found spots and worried about the tiniest of blotches that appeared on her face. Being a vampire flawless skin is apart of the package and Esme certainly doesn’t take it for granted.
Her Hair:
Esme’s favourite feature has always been her hair, she loves the colour and the way her hair falls naturally into small curls at the bottom. Her hair has always been naturally full of volume and she rather likes it that way.
Her Curvy Body:
Being changed to a vampire so soon after giving birth meant that Esme has always been a lot rounder than many of the other vampires. This resulted in her having wider hips and larger breasts than she would have if she hadn’t recently given birth. However she feels it suits her and it gives her a natural mothering look.
MOST HATED FEATURE:
Her Eyes:
Esme very much dislikes her eyes the colour changes depending on how hungry she is and it’s a huge give away that she is not human. She wishes her eyes where the dark brown they once where before she’d been changed to a vampire.
Her Hands:
Esme was brought up in a world were women where judged on their looks and were ladies could be determined by the state of their hands. Esme has always disliked her hands, as her fingers aren’t as long as she’d like and she often describes them as stubby.
Her Ears:
Esme has always felt her ears where too large for her, when she was younger it was blaringly obvious that her ears where too large for her but as she grew older she grew into them. However her dislike for them has never changed.
HERITAGE: American ETHNICITY: Caucasian
You’re not the only vampire I know.
GENERAL PERSONALITY:
Esme is one of those rare souls who love’s everyone for who they are, she sees the best in people, even those people who seem to be disliked more than liked. Esme is able to see past the front people put up and to see the person inside. She adores her adoptive family and loves them more than life itself. She is the glue that holds them together and makes them a family, if one member of her family is unhappy she is unhappy as well. She does her best to make sure each of them is happy and if one member left it would leave her broken hearted.
She would never dream of not being the perfect hostess and finds it important to give a good impression to all who may visit the Cullen household. She is, however, rather sensitive about people, it hurts her greatly if someone doesn’t accept the efforts she’s making to make the comfortable and happy and will take it to heart.
Esmes not much of a fighter, she’s never been very good with violence, when she was human her husband beat her on a regular occasion. She was too afraid to fight back and merely let him continue to abuse her; although she only has vague memories of this from her human life it has affected her greatly in this life making her extremely vulnerable to attacks.
The loss of a child is a great pain that can never be fully healed, even though Esme can only remember a vague picture of the child she lost the pain that came with it is still rooted inside of her. Nothing can make up for the loss of a child even immortal life and not a day goes by where Esme doesn’t wish for a child of her own. Not to replace the child that she lost but so she could have something to love like she would have loved the child she lost. Sadly something like that is impossible for Esme so she looks to Carlisle and her adopted children to fill that spot in her heart that aches so much for a child of her own.
Esme treats her adoptive children much like any mother would treat their own children. She encourages them with anything that they show interest in and scolds them when their fun becomes dangerously close to destroying her precious dining table. If any of her children fight she does her best to resolve the problem before it blows out of proportion. She observes problems in the family that might need addressing. She wont bring attention to it in front of everyone but will wait until the time is right and discuss it first with the people it may concern. She doesn’t like to cause confrontation or to make things worse than they already are.
Esme has always been fascinated with beautiful things and has always been very creative. She loves designing homes and has studied architecture all over the world, time passes amazingly fast when she’s surrounded by blueprints and designs of buildings she wishes to create.
HOBBIES:
Renovating old furniture:
Taking something that is old and ruined but was once beautiful and recrafting it into its original state gives Esme great joy. The Cullen household is filled with bits of furniture Esme has collected and restored into their original state. She has managed to collect many pieces of furniture throughout the century and many pieces once belonged to royal families.
Architecture
Looking over blue prints of buildings and designing her own is Esme’s idea of fun. She has designed all the homes they have lived in so far and often gets her children to help her build them. Although Emmett, Edward and Jasper have a tendency to turn her building sites into battle zones she still gets them involved, even if it means she has to lay down a strict set of rules.
Gardening
When Esme was human she was expected to flower arrange and use plants to make the home pretty. Of course Esme doesn’t remember this part of her life very well and as a matter of fact she wasn’t keen on the flower arranging part. She much prefers planting and nurturing plants of all kinds and watching them flourish under her care.

FEARS:
Loosing her family
Esme’s biggest fear is living on this planet without her family. If she didn’t have them she would have nothing and her life would not be worth living.
Tasting Human Blood
Esme is terrified if she ever tasted human blood she would never be able to stop and her family would disown her.
The Volturi
Esme knows the power they have and it scares her, she and her family like to keep a low profile out of the vampire limelight. She fears what might happen to them if the Volturi where to decide they where dangerous.
SECRETS:
Favours Edward
She’d never say it aloud, but Edward has a special place in her heart. He was the first of her adopted children and the one to be without a partner for so long. She has spent hours worrying about Edward and is extremely pleased he has found Bella.
Wishes She Was Human
If Esme was human she would be able to have a child of her very own, she would live a normal life watching the child grow and eventually she would die. Being a vampire means she can never have a child. She will live forever and just sometimes she wonders if she’d appreciate life more knowing she could die at any moment. Of course she would never wish for any of this if it meant loosing Carlisle or any of her adopted children.
Craves Human Blood
It sickens her to think of it but sometimes when she’s around humans she cannot help but imagine how satisfying it would be to drink human blood. Then she remembers that that human will be the daughter, sister, mother of someone and she feels awful thinking she might destroy that life for her own satisfaction.
We can’t all be freakishly strong.
GENERAL HISTORY:
Esme was born on the 1st of June 1895 on the outskirts of Columbia to a middle class family. Her family was a small family consisting of her mother, father and older sister. Esme was always fascinated by anything beautiful and was happy spending all her time in the large garden at the back of the cottage. The garden was her playground as she grew up and spent all her time amongst the flowers, plants and animals. As she got a little older and was permitted to explore the forest that was apart of their backyard Esme would often return with small animals that needed ‘treating’ for all sorts of injuries. Her father would often humour her and the two of them spent hours pouring over animal books.
As Esme grew older and was educated in a small church house with many other children older and younger than her, her interest in architecture grew and would often buy books containing information on buildings. Esmes mother grew increasingly worried about Esme, she wasn’t the lady like daughter she needed. Esme wasn’t interested in flower arranging or needlework although she did have a talent for making things look beautiful. Esme was more interested in the structure of buildings and brickwork, the work of a man. Esme’s older sister became of age and moved far away marrying a middle class man and becoming a housewife.
Esme was her mother’s only hope now; the family needed help out of their finical rut so Esme had to marry well. Her mother knew that Esme had great appeal, looks wise she was a natural beauty, not blaringly obvious but her dainty features and kind spirit where sure to capture the heart of some man. Her mother didn’t care what man so long as he had a reasonable bank account. It was a late Sunday evening and Esme was just sixteen when she approached her mother saying how she wanted to make a career out of teaching. Esme wanted to give young children advantages in life and she had an extensive knowledge of Maths, Science, English and Art. Esme’s mother was furious, there was no way her youngest daughter at last chance of not starving to death was going to throw away a life of luxury.
Esme was distraught and left the house to the solace of the forest. She climbed a tree and sat watching the sunset her heart was broken but watching the sun set made her feel at piece with the world. It was then the branch she was sitting on broke and she plunged to the ground her leg breaking. When she awoke she was in her bed staring into the eyes of a stranger, yet that strangers face stayed with her for the rest of her human life. She didn’t know it then but she had fallen in love with the handsome doctor who moved with a God like manner as he treated her for a broken leg. Unknowing to her she was destined to be his soul mate for all eternity.
After this incident Esme’s mother decided that enough was enough, it was time for Esme to find her place in the world so she dressed Esme up and forced her out into society. There where a few interests in Esme but non-where more keen than a Mr Charles Evenson. Esme wasn’t keen on him she sensed a kind of cruelness that seeped through his airs and graces. However when he proposed to her, her mother insisted she accept or else Esme would be disowned from the family.
So Esme accepted the offer, however on her wedding night she discovered his long-term relationship with liqueur and whiskey. After he’d had a drink or too he became extremely aggressive and would often take his anger out on Esme, he hit her repeatedly and on several occasions he forced himself on her. She became increasingly depressed; her loving spirit was crushed by her cruel husband. News came to her that her husband was to be drafted into the war and Esme couldn’t have been more relieved. She knew it was wrong of her to hope that he would be killed but she did. Two years later he returned to her much to her sorrow and it wasn’t long after his return she discovered she was with child.
Now Esme hadn’t had the courage to leave Charles before, but the thought of her child being subjected to the same cruelness she had been, was too much. She fled to her sisters taking up the job of a governess, while the child grew inside of her. She loved this unborn child more than life itself, and she couldn’t wait to set her eyes on the baby that had been growing inside of her for so long.
She gave birth to a baby boy, Thomas, she couldn’t have been happier. Her heart had ached for that baby and she could not bear to be parted from her son. He was so beautiful and she was proud to be his mother. Sadly, her happiness was not to last. Three days after the birth of her son he died of a lung infection. She had watched him worsen over the hours, the medication the doctors had given him not helping. Nothing could have hurt her more, she felt like God had taken her heart with her baby and she became increasingly depressed.
One afternoon she left her sister’s house and walked towards the cliff’s edge, she waited for the sun to set before stepping off the edge of the cliff and letting the sea consume her. She thought this was the end until the searing pain shot all around her body, was she being punished by God? Was this what hell was?
She awoke after what seemed like an eternity of pain, the burning thirst in her throat was unbearable and all her senses where magnified and strange to her. Over her first year as a vampire Carlisle helped her to control her thirst and new abilities and soon the two where inseparable. They married and set up a ‘family’ Edward being their adopted son.
After years of travelling around the world the family, which had grown significantly since Esme joined, returned to Forks in the hope of staying for as long as they could without causing suspicions.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
Esme rocked back and forth on the edge of the cliff her eyes tightly shut, as the wind wrapped itself around her body in a comforting embrace. The sea lapped gently against the edge of the cliff base welcoming her into its icy depths. Esme’s hair blew gently around her face tickling her nose but she paid no attention to it, fore she felt so much pain not just physically from giving birth a few days before but mentally the pain was too much. Her body ached and her eyes where heavy and tired, but she knew the pain would not last much longer.
Pieces of her life flashed before her eyes as she prepared herself to take that one step that would release her from this world in which she only knew pain. The only bit of love she had known had died with her son, and now she would return to him. It was her place; a mother should be with her child.
Suddenly she was sixteen years of age and had her whole life ahead of her, that hope that she would soon find her handsome prince was as certain as the sun would keep rising and setting. She was high in the trees watching the sun fall behind the farthest hill when the branch she was sitting on broke and she fell to the ground. A sharp pain shot up her leg and she quickly descended into darkness.
Esme opened her eyes and gazed out into the ocean it was almost dark now, soon no one would be on the beaches below and if anyone was to find her body the next day it would be too late. She pondered what they’d put on her death certificate would it be ‘Suicide’ or ‘accidental death’?
Esme when she awoke found herself on her bed staring into the eyes of a complete stranger. Yet it was those eyes that had fascinated her so, she’d never seen eyes like it, they where an almost golden colour. The owner of the eyes smiled gently at her as he explained what had happened, but Esme couldn’t take it in, she was infatuated with the owner of the eyes. He moved about her room with a God like grace and his voice to her sounded like the sweetest music. After he had left Esme promised herself she would never marry unless the man she met made her feel the way Dr Cullen had made her feel that day.
It wasn’t long now the sun was almost set which would guarantee that no one on the beaches below would see her fall and attempt the heroic deed of saving her. And then she would see her son again, she would be able to hold him in her arms and press him close to her breast protecting him from the horrors of the world. She had watched her child in pain, the medication the doctors had given him where useless as the lung infection worsened and she had not slept for days unable to take her eyes off the slowly dying child. Now she couldn’t wait to fall into the arms of slumber as her aching eyes closed to the image of the last sunset she was to witness.
Esme was nineteen years old and it was her wedding night, her eyes widened as her husband entered the room half dressed and intoxicated with drink. “Ahhh my lovely bride” he said leering towards her spilling whiskey from the bottle he held in his right hand. Esme cried out with fright retreating to the corner of the room hoping he’d leave her be but she was not to be so lucky. He approached her menacingly his face becoming redder as he took in his wife cowering from him. “How dare you Woman!” he barked striking her across the cheek, tears flowed down her face as she felt the sting of his strike and she turned her face from him closing her eyes hoping to shut his image out. He grabbed her by her hair dropping the whiskey on the floor he sneered “I’ve waited for you for months, I gave you the perfect wedding and now you think you can deny me my rights as your husband” Esme yelped reaching out to try to prise his fingers from her hair but she was no match for him as he threw her onto the bed and she descended back into darkness.
She opened her eyes as the last ray of sunlight vanished from the horizon and darkness fell. This was the moment she had been waiting for, the moment from which all this pain and suffering would end and she would finally be free. Taking one last breath she stepped forward and plunged into the waters icy depths.
She was in the hospital her body ached and she was exhausted but she didn’t care as she heard the cries from her child as the nurse cut the umbilical cord and wrapped the child in a blanket, Esme reached out to take the child that cried for the comfort of its mothers arms and brought the child close to her chest as she gazed lovingly at the little face. “It’s a boy” the nurse said with a smile before leaving the room to get a doctor to check on Esme. Esme gazed down at the tired baby, it had stopped crying and was now gazing curiously back at her, he had big brown eyes and small tufts of matted hair on his head. Esme smiled as she let her finger trace the child’s cheek softly “Hello Thomas…”
