"Follow your heart", he said. Your heart will take you there. "Swallow your pride", he said. For pride is anything but rare. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - s of lately, Rosalie honestly felt like she was fighting a losing battle.
Perhaps she was wrong, and maybe she was being melodramatic. With an individual like herself, there were always possibilities. However, Rosalie had long since accepted her role in the family. The fact that her views and morals seemed to go against the general consensus didn't bother her as much anymore. Yes, things would have been much easier if she could just agree; and this was the problem. Agreeing was one of the many abilities that she'd never possessed. Of course, the matters which Rosalie usually chose to disagree on were trivial at the most. Alice wanted the lamp directly across from the southeast corner of the house because of the reflection it'd give off after three everyday, Edward insisted that she didn't casually wear a haute couture Versace dress around town because no one did that - things of that nature. And even if Rose knew that the lamp did give off a brilliant reflection where Alice wanted it, or that wearing that dress really was stupid, she simply had to find some sort of fault and dissent.
The difference between this time and the countless ones before was that the issue was anything but trivial. And even though Rose probably cared about Bella Swan's mortality more than the foolish human did herself, there were many more reasons behind Rosalie's current views. Sadly, most of the Cullens seemed oblivious to this. Rose wasn't sure if her family had gone insane, or if they - like her - simply refused to be wrong. Through her eyes, things were going downhill quickly.
Naturally, her attitude was more harmful than helpful. It was incredibly frustrating to know that in more ways than one she'd lost her credibility. Rosalie hated herself for making that phone call; the one call that almost caused Edward to erratically, and rather stupidly put himself in a suicidal situation. Of course Rosalie had apologized countless times since then; usually through her actions instead of words. Still, she realized that it'd take years to properly atone for all of that. Once again, Rose had placed herself directly in the middle of a catch twenty-two.
"There," she said softly, tossing the pen she'd used back into the cup on the desk. She looked down at the note that she'd written for Emmett, allowing her eyes to linger on her rather spectacular and embellished handwriting. Pretty things were hard to not appreciate, even at times like this. The note was simple and to the point, which was a bit of an accomplishment for Rosalie. She'd promised Emmett a bit of quality time when he got home with the rest of the family. Even though he hadn't directly called her out on the matter, Rosalie had always been fairly talented at gauging her husband's emotions. She didn't need Jasper's talent to tell that Em didn't like it when she decided to go all lonely soldier on everyone.
Despite the smile that had somehow managed to decorate her face, Rosalie exhaled a heavy sigh. And with that the smile dissolved. Swinging her legs around, Rose grabbed the note and a piece of tape before standing up. She danced over to the door, which was open, and stuck the note to it. Rosalie paused for what felt like minutes, though it was only a few seconds in reality to think. It was childish, but she really didn't want to leave through the front door. She didn't want to see that pitying look in Esme's eyes, or the smirk on Edwards face in reaction to her thoughts. Of course they'll know anyway thanks to the pixie. With that realization, Rose slammed the door to the room she shared with Emmett. In three long strides she was in front of the window. Rolling her eyes at the tinkling laughter downstairs, Rosalie opened it and jumped.
And then her feet hit the ground, and she was running, running, running. Rose realized with a slight irritation that she couldn't fully let go, because she'd probably wind up crossing the boundary. Considering her mood, Rosalie wouldn't have minded injuring a few pups. Thankfully her common sense was strong enough to keep her from acting on an impulse.
The run was over far too quickly. Rosalie slowed to a walk and didn't stop until she was directly in the center of the meadow. She stretched out on the ground, unconsciously adjusting the angle of her body so the sunlight hit every inch of her exposed alabaster skin perfectly. Maybe that was her biggest problem - everything always had to be perfect. Rose brushed her hair so it cascaded over her shoulder just so, then she closed her eyes. Just relax, she instructed herself. The chance of Emmett reading her note and not being too upset to come meet her was pretty fair; but she couldn't help feeling anxious. There weren't a lot of things that scared Rosalie, and the thought of losing Emmett's support was so frightening that she couldn't stand it. It didn't make much sense from an outside perspective... even she knew that.
Then again, when did Rosalie Hale ever make sense?

E M M E T T C U L L E N In my thoughts! In my dreams ! He flinched as the door slammed shut, his and Rose’s door. He had been listening carefully to what his wife had been up to whilst stuck in the middle of a very intricate and very complicated version of chess with Jasper. He glared daggers at Edward and Jasper as they giggled. He heard the window open and her leap from him.
It pained him enough that he’d left Rose up there alone, but after that little outburst made him feel a whole lot worse. He’d wanted to spend all day up there with her but he knew he had to spend time with his family too. Plus him and Jasper had a unfinished game of chess to attend too – there version of chess contained about 5 boards, and could go on for days. It was also very confusing to follow and understand and most people claimed the lads made the rules up as they went along (Emmett knew this was partly true).
He moved a chess piece along the board and grinned. ”Oh yea you got owned, bro!” he said he knew he’d won this match now. Providing Alice didn’t get involved, which was likely. He watched as Jasper moved around the boards but couldn’t keep his attention on the game. He should go and find Rose. It had already been a few minutes since she had ran out of the house, a few minutes more would pass before he left the house and found her, plenty for her to calm down.
He smiled apologetically at Jasper and Jasper nodded, knowing what was on Emmett’s mind all too well. You had to admit his brothers were very understanding considering their partners weren’t half as highly strung as his.
He swiftly, and gracefully (as graceful as Emmett could be at least – which was surprisingly graceful) got up and headed up the stairs. Reaching the door, this now bore a big crack in it. At least this time he couldn’t get the blame for it. He noticed the note taped to the door and lifting his hand to it he admired the handwriting for a moment before pulling it down and carefully reading it. It was only a short note but it said enough for him to be able to find Rose. He decided the best thing to do would be to go out the way she had gone (plus jumping out of windows = great fun).
He looked out at the blue sky, the sun was shining. Rare occurrence in forks and a very annoying one too, one of the downsides to being a vampire was that you sparkled in the sunlight, something which did nothing for Emmett’s social status or ego. (Not that he had a social status anyway, but put it this way. Seeing a six foot five, muscular guy sparkle entertained his brothers greatly).
He pulled off the top he was wearing and pulled on a shirt, leaving the buttons undone. Might as well enjoy the sun whilst it was out and if he was going to sparkle he might as well show his body whilst he was sparkling. He left the jeans he was wearing on and jumped from the already open window before setting off through the forest. He could smell the faint trail of scent Rosalie had left and followed it carefully before it grew stronger.
He knew exactly where she had gone, not only because it was written in the note, but because it was one of the most gorgeous places in forks. The Meadow, he stopped at the edge of the trees and gazed into the centre. He could make out the sparkling light that was Rose. He smiled to himself and slowly – for a vampire – made his way over. Sinking to the floor next to her he tried to find the right words to say, although sometimes the best words were silent. He picked up a piece of golden hair. ”You know, sparkling is so over-rated” he grinned. Looking down at her sparkling body ”You should cover up more”. He smiled, gently winding the piece of hair round his finger.

To see myself clearly... is such a daunting task. But I will face it dearly, I just don't think I'll last. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - nhaling deeply, Rosalie tried her hardest to ground herself. Taking into account the many times that she'd faced a situation like this before, she figured that she had a few minutes before Emmett would arrive. One would think that Rose would eventually tire of the dramatics, but this wasn't the case. See, she wasn't trying to be high strung or unreasonable for once - not that anyone would understand that. This was the exact reason that she'd bailed from the confinement of the house in the first place. Everyone's blind support of Edward and his latest news was downright sickening.
As Rosalie's emotions slowed, the speed of her thoughts increased. Her mind screamed a thousand objections, even though there wasn't anyone around to share them with. It was so hard to form a coherent statement because there were so many issues with Bella Swan becoming Bella Cullen, a la the loss of a particular heartbeat. Rose didn't really think that she'd be able to sway any views, no matter how hard she tried. Still, she was an extremely determined individual. I have to find a way. Rosalie took another deep - and unnecessary - breath, in one last attempt to at least make herself look like she wasn't falling apart. She wasn't quite sure if it worked.
Suddenly, her favorite smell surrounded her. A few seconds later, her favorite sound followed. "Emmett," she acknowledged softly. Somehow, Rosalie's wind-chime laughter managed to bubble and escape her. Two seconds ago she'd been determined to stay serious, but that all seemed ridiculous now. Bella's future was still an issue. Being right was an even bigger one, of course. "You're a huge distraction, you know."
In one sweeping and slightly overzealous motion, she adjusted herself so she was practically imprinted against Emmett's exposed chest. The feel of her icy skin against his was purely electric. Rosalie closed her eyes, deciding to milk the moment for its full worth. All of her harsh, spinning thoughts were now silenced; and for that Rose was extremely grateful. A lot of things had changed over the years, but the bond that she shared with Emmett had remained as solid as ever. He was her stability - the aspirin that cured every single headache.
"You know, sparkling is so over-rated... you should cover up more.”
It wasn't necessary for Rosalie to turn around to him smiling, because she could hear it in his beautiful voice. And it was precisely that sound that also made Rose feel a thousand times more beautiful. Reaching up with her right hand, she placed it softly on Emmett's cheek. "You're right, I should cover up more." A devilish smile illuminated Rose's face, shining through her liquid gold eyes. "I'll try to remember the next time we have the house to ourselves," she declared in a semi-forced serious tone.
If it was up to Rosalie, she'd stay in like this forever. Gazing at the simple beauty of the meadow, leaning against Em, she felt calmer than she had in a really long time. Apparently that was what she'd needed, because now her thoughts were falling into place with a surprising alacrity. At that moment, she felt like a lawyer who was ready to argue the case of the decade in the Supreme Court. It was a rather blissful feeling, so naturally it couldn't last. Rosalie sighed softly and let her hand drop back to her lap. There was so much that she needed to get out.
"Look Em, I really am sorry." Rose only hoped that he'd be able to grasp the truth behind those words. Sometimes, she wondered how he did it. Out of the entire family, Rosalie knew she was the most difficult partner to deal with. In so many ways she honestly felt bad for Emmett. What was it like to always be tied to the one who tried so hard to separate herself from the rest? Rosalie had a hard time believing that it was more challenging than actually being the said person - but hey, it was a baby step.
Sighing heavily for what felt like the millionth time that day, Rose gently pulled away from Emmett. She quickly sat on her knees, facing him directly but avoiding eye contact. "I know that everyone isn't trying to see my point of view," she admitted after a few moments of silent inner struggle. "I guess I'm not entitled to anyone's trust after what I did," Rosalie began, "but I really do need someone to understand." Her words reeked of a certain sense of desperation. Rosalie was still looking at the ground, afraid of what she'd find in Emmett's eyes.
Sparkling might have been overrated, but having someone on her side was not.

E M M E T T C U L L E N Can you hear heaven cry ! Tears of an angel ! ”Emmett”
Her soft musical voice made him smile; her laugh made a laugh of his own escape his lips. He loved how he could make Rose laugh when he knew she least wanted to laugh – like at a moment like this. ”Well I couldn’t exactly be a small distraction, that’s an impossibility for me” he laughed. He watched as in one graceful movement she was in his arms, leaning against his bare chest. He wrapped his strong arms around her and stroked her golden locks.
Her skin felt warm against his and as soft as velvet. Unlike to a human where it would feel cold and hard. Playing with Rosalie’s golden hair was probably one of the only calm things Emmett ever did, well the only calm thing he could do for hours on end. He loved the feel of it against his skin.
Emmett groaned when she spoke her next words, he knew she was only teasing but the thought of Rose covered up when they were home alone wasn’t even worth thinking about. ”No, when we’re home alone you can wear as little clothes as you want.” he said, grinning ”I just worry some other vampire might come along and steal my Rose.” he said this in the sweetest voice possible. Like a little kid who was worried there mum was about to take away their lollipop.
There was a few minutes silence. With Rose in his arms, he could feel her getting ready to say something and he wanted to leave her to think. He knew Rose needed thinking time and space sometimes but sometimes she also just needed him there, he calmed her down much like she calmed him down.
Of course Emmett would rather she never spoke the next words that came out of her mouth. ”Rose...” he sighed as she pulled herself away so she could face him and started her speech. As she drew to the end he took and deep breath – he really didn’t want to hear this – and he drew a finger up and placed it over her lips. ”Rose, you have no need to be sorry to me or anyone else” he said calmly and quietly. He left his hand fall from her lips to her cheek.
”I understand you, Rose and I’ll always listen. What Edward is doing is stupid and wrong but it’s making him happy and the rest of the family somewhat happy.” Emmett’s logical side didn’t come out often and when it did he thought of everything from everyone’s side. No-one really considered Emmett the smartest of the Cullens, and he wasn’t. He was the muscle, but he was smarter then he let on. ”If that were me and you...” he cut off, he knew he wasn’t choosing the right words and he had done it again, spoke n before thinking.
Rose wanted to be human more than anything, so why the hell did he just compare them to Bella and Edward. He felt like smacking himself. He sighed and wrapped his arms around Rose. ”Listen Rose, I’m here for you. I always will be, I’ll always be on your side. Whether that’s right or wrong.” he looked into her eyes. ”I can’t promise you everything,” Rose knew what he meant by that. He meant he couldn’t give her the one thing he wanted to give her most. The one thing she wanted most. It pained him as much as it pained her and he’d tried numerous times to find ways around it. Numerous talks with Carlisle but there was nothing he could do about it ”but i can promise you i will always be yours. Your Emmett. Which means i stick with you through everything.” he leant down and gently kissed her on the lips.

So I walked into your eyes, without a raincoat on. And in the saltiest sea, I find you're all but gone. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - inding it hard to look into Emmett's eyes, Rosalie began the search for a distraction. She could only hope that it was subtle, but she wasn't certain. Underneath her knees she could feel the support of the warm earth. Her fingers idly traced a pattern in the grass, weaving around the flowers that were closest to her legs. Sadness had cloaked the air between the two vampires. It was heavy and thick; like a wool blanket. Rose hated the feeling, but at the same time she was scared to leave it's protective embrace. Maybe the fact that this emotion provided protection was a little messed up. Rosalie realized this, but at the same time she had her reasons. See, it was a battle between sadness and defeat; and the latter was much more frightening.
”If that were me and you...”
The shock that Rosalie had felt moments before paled in comparison to the way she felt now. In the back of her mind, Rose made a vague comparison to the phrase 'hitting below the belt'. Obviously, Emmett hadn't intended to be malicious with his statement. Of course not. A hundred words of protest danced on the tip of her tongue, begging to escape. This was the instinctual defensive Rosalie; but within less than a minute the desire to retaliate was gone. She was hurt - not angry.
Biting her lip, Rose allowed him to finish his thought. "You're entirely too good for me." The words left her lips in a melodic whisper, but they somehow managed to ring in her head. Rosalie felt her eyelashes brush against her cheeks. Anyone who knew her was fully aware of the effort it took to admit any type of flaw. Naturally, a big part of her was slightly shocked that the words had escaped. It's true, she reasoned. Her train of thought was interrupted by a sweet kiss.
For once, Rose held back the urge to respond. Usually she'd throw herself on top of him, beginning the fierce choreography of their lips becoming one. It was always this way between the pair. When they made any sort of physical contact, electricity was created. Rosalie had long since realized that aside from her self-absorption, Emmett was her biggest weakness. If she caved in she'd be little more than putty. Not able to break it off at that exact moment, Rosalie remained frozen like a statue. She was currently experiencing the vampire equivalent of chills - which were basically a matter of the mind - and they were delicious. Once again her thoughts were foggy. Maybe it was a bit cowardly to use physical contact as a sedative, but that was Rose.
Honestly afraid to fully let go, she allowed the symphonic and dangerously pleasurable buzz to continue for a few more precious seconds. Somehow, her breathing had become unnecessarily erratic. Rosalie was falling apart, and it was painfully obvious. A sickening feeling of disgust filled her. What's wrong with me? She hastily pulled away from Emmett. Casting her liquid gold eyes skyward, she tried to fit the pieces of the puzzle together. Soon after, Rosalie gave up.
"Oh, Emmett," she murmured, finally allowing herself to make eye contact. Mirroring one of his earlier gestures, she placed one of her pale fingers on his soft lips. Her blonde waves moved ever so slightly as she shook her head from side to side twice. "I know you'll always be there." In any other situation the truth behind those words would be touching. "But can't you see my problem?" Something inside of her - perhaps a burst of logic - warned her to stop. But now that the gate was open, she couldn't find the will to halt the potentially harmful words.
"I'm letting this get to me. It's destroying me." Somehow, a frightened expression had taken over her face. This was irony in its purest form. Since when were the best predators in the world scared of anything? A short, humorless laugh bubbled out of her. At that moment, her common sense was yelling, ordering her to stop before she said the wrong thing. Despite this warning, the frenzy inside of her was clearly stronger. "I still wish that someone would have been there to say no for me." With that, the blonde crumbled. She realized what her words meant and desperately wanted to take them back, but that was it.
Because they were brutally truthful; and for that reason alone, she couldn't.
