Reason uncertain; I'm leaving tonight
The clouds rolled inwards, the runners at the forefront of the condensed liquid army a dark and foreboding grey. Already Jase could feel the air temperature lower by a few trivial degrees, having little effect on his snowy pale skin. A few humans glanced up at the sky and when instinct snapped it's fingers on a whim and demanded that some long-dormant genetic instruction cause them concern - a few of them ducked under the awnings that billowed lazily in the slow wind, various colours in juxtapositions to the grey and relatively uninteresting buildings. They all had that sort of tomb-stone look to them - the grey, flat surfaces with vacant glass windows and they looked like homes to corporate zombies. Chances were, it was. Jase was leaning against a beige sandstone building, the texture of it grainy but not uncomfortable, with his hands in the pockets of his trench coat. He could feel the beginnings of rain, now - a few stray droplets misted over his marble skin, feel the cool liquid trickle down his cheekbones and onto his neck. Now normally, he would have stayed outdoors and just savoured the feeling of water running over his collarbones, the fluid motion of it - but then again, every human hated it, and in order to prevent suspicion Jase had to abandon his more independent self and at least pretend to fit in. That was, in fact, massively uninteresting - but unfortunately it was deemed a necessity by the very nature of their species.
Well, that was just fan-freaking-tastic.
Drawing in a highly unnecessary sigh that did little more than inform him of his surroundings - the people, the animals, so on - he pushed himself off the wall of the building and with a movement that was perhaps more graceful than it should have been, crossed the path to the pedestrian crossing. Pausing impatiently while the lights deliberated over whether they'd die if they crossed or not, Jase didn't even glance at the road when the lights finally turned green. And why should he have to? It wasn't like a car was that heavy or anything. And they were slow. Oh, and he'd hear one coming. Ducking into the nearest door, Jason happened to find himself in a big, square room with a bar and waitresses scuttling around the place holding plates full of that revolting food they ate - with hair almost exclusively by L'Oreal and smiles by Colgate. Ducking to avoid a plate of vegetables, Jase found himself a table closest to the window - with rivulets of water running down it, the umbrellas held by people in the streets looked unnatural and bizarre, alien. He tilted his head, with his burgundy eyes [they looked dark enough in the weird lighting] to the waitress who was smiling at him [was there some law that demanded they have that slutty smile? Normally the part-man-whore of him wouldn't care, but he wasn't in the mood. "Just a coffee, thanks." He said flatly, causing her smile to falter a little. 'Sure. Anything else I can get you?'.
With the waitress going off to sulk get his coffee [ugh. He was only keeping up pretences.] he stared at the window, contemplating life for a few petty minutes - until the waitress reappeared and spilt some of the 'hot' coffee onto his wrist. She squealed and muttered frantic apologies as she dabbed at his wrist with a cloth, until Jase flicked her away and leant in, breathing quietly in her ear - yay for vampires being painfully attractive. "That's okay," was his perfectly amiable response. "I make allowances for people with an IQ in the double figures. And unnaturally blond hair." he leant in closer to stage whisper, but quiet enough most wouldn't hear it. "It's not fooling anyone."
She left.

ALL AROUND MEA R E F A M I L I A R F A C E S , W O R N O U T P L A C E S , W O R N O U T F A C E S_________________________________________________ Kate exited the forest where the quaint town of Port Angeles began, and smiled as she looked up at the murky sky. She listened to the roll of thunder, certain that the Cullens were rounding up for a game of baseball. She grinned at the thought, and walked further into town. She'd walked out of the woods and not one human had even given her a second glance. Silly oblivious mortals. Another crack of thunder struck and Kate tilted her head back as the first droplets of cool rain fell from the dark clouds.
Weather was an intriguing thing. Rain and snow, clear skies, the various temperatures. How they all worked themselves out all on their own was quite brilliant. Kate didn't waste the time to figure it all out, however. She had convinced herself that finding that out would ruin the novelty anyway. She closed her eyes while she walked, letting the rain fall on her. She giggled once, opening her eyes again and spinning in a circle.
Oh, what fun those actors must have had, dancing in the streets of their set in that Dancing in the Rain musical. Kate wished she was more musically inclined. She could dance like the best of them, but was never able to get past her human tone deafness. Sad. It didn't matter though, because even though Kate wasn't amazing at carrying a tune, she still would sing along with the radio or hum to herself to get rid of boredom.
The rain began to fall harder and Kate gazed around at the nearly empty streets. Must have been a bad storm if the humans had run to hide away this much. Worked out well for Kate, however, because she didn't have to restrain herself so much. She twirled again, beginning to get quite soaked from the rain. She stopped on the sidewalk and closed her eyes once more, just enjoying the feeling of the droplets on her skin, as her nose picked up a familiar scent dashing into a nearby building. She flicked her golden eyes open to look in the direction of the diner the scent had gone. "Hmm," she pressed her lips together and nearly skipped toward the diner in pursuit of the person she was quite looking forward to seeing again.
She shook her wet curls from her face, and glanced over her wet clothes before laughing at herself and heading into the diner anyway. A few waitresses gave her an odd look as they passed by her in a hurry, but she ignored them. She glanced over to Jase and a grin reached her lips again. She glided over to him, falling into the seat of the booth directly across the table from him. "Why thank you for inviting me for dinner, Jason. I so very much appreciate it," she set a hand over her chest a moment, mocking sincerity before finally smirking at him. "Howdy handsome, how have you been?" She tilted her head with the question, fiddling with a wet lock of blonde hair. NOTES woot for a template. =p WORDS ehm i dunno. TAGGED Jase <3 CREDIT BY HEY BAYBAY !? AT CAUTION ! [/font] [/center]

Jase continued to glower at the waitress as she mopped up the stinking brown liquid she'd managed to spill over the cuff of his coat - he shook it off disdainfully, swallowing the acidic venom that rose up in his throat. It was a reaction he'd gotten used to, really - he wasn't thirsty, but his anger had something to do with it. Really, there seemed to be a waitress code of conduct he hadn't heard about. 1. Be a slut. 2. Have artificial hair. 3. Be totally unsuitable for any chances at gainful employment whatsoever. Jason proceeded to steeple his fingers, resting his chiselled jaw on them and gazing at her with a frankly unnerving burgundy intensity that really only came from not having to blink. She seemed afraid to look away, and she stumbled over yet another apology. Jase spoke coolly, but appeared unbothered by the effect he was having on her mental health. "I'm fine. Go back to swanning around with your artificially coloured hair and teeth - maybe that'll get you laid by the boss so you can get a bigger tip." Her jaw dropped and Jase went back to staring disinterestedly out the window, with it's view distorted by rain and a few fingerprints, presumably where the precocious little darlings now swarming around the heated room had pawed at the glass. Shiny thing. It was worse, because the mothers never wanted to believe that the children were just as dim-witted as the others. No, darling little Tarquinn is brilliant! And Yarquinn stood there and snivelled and did nothing like the rest of them.
But his attention was dragged away when he caught a more familiar scent, one reminiscent of caramel and vanilla - well, there were subtle undertones as well, but they were the foremost. He turned his head to the door in time to see her, kate, waltz right in, her blonde [and he'd mentioned that he was a sucker for blondes last time he'd seen her. Hmm.] curls dripping minute crystalline droplets onto the carpet. he said nothing as she dropped, soaking wet, into the seat opposite him, the material soaking up a good deal of the liquid she'd managed to absorb. Well done there, Kate. A slow smile twisted over his glassy lips, and he lifted his chin off his steepled fingers and folded his arms over the plastic surface of the table, ignoring the bread crumbs coating it's ugly blue-grey surface. Why thank you for inviting me for dinner, Jason. I so very much appreciate it,. Jase nodded in acknowledgement, with a slow smirk. "You're very welcome there, sweetheart; it was the least I could do." He batted back without so much as a blink, effortlessly responding in a smooth manner. It was just another pretence; but a vaguely more kidding one. Howdy handsome, how have you been? She asked, twisting one wet blond curl around her fingers. Jase raised his eyebrows and shot her a half smile before he replied. "I've been fine, sweetheart, - not starved, beaten or unnecessarily frightened."

ALL AROUND MEA R E F A M I L I A R F A C E S , W O R N O U T P L A C E S , W O R N O U T F A C E S_________________________________________________ She let out a short laugh, enjoying Jase's ability to banter with her so effortlessly. She was thoroughly intrigued by this one. And that wasn't a frequent occurence for Katrina. In Alaska, she was bored of constant sisterly bonding, and rather jealous of the love Carmen and Eleazar shared. If Kate gained nothing more than a friend in Jase, she would be quite satisfied by the mere change of pace.
"Very good to hear, darling," she replied, smiling. She crossed her legs comfortably beneath the table, feeling water droplets rolling over her skin and from her hair. "Isn't the weather lovely this evening?" She flicked her bright eyes out the window, almost beaming at the rainstorm. "I was dancing for a few minutes, as you probably gathered from my . . . current appearance," she smirked and glanced over herself a moment.
The rude comments Jase was spewing to the flighty waitress would have gone entirely unnoticed by a normal human, but Kate's astute senses made her keenly aware of it, even though she probably didn't want to see such a side of her new acquaintance. She glanced sidelong to the bottle blonde waitress, pursing her lips slightly as she sized her up. Just because she may be a little airheaded, didn't really mean Jase needed to berate her with insults. "I see you're aiming to receive spit-filled dishes this evening by being ever-so courteous to the staff." She joked and smirked at Jase, folding her arms over the tabletop as she looked at him.
The aforementioned waitress returned after another moment, still visibly wary of Jase. She looked apologetically from him to Kate, looking somewhat confused by her soaked appearance. "Might I be able to get you something?" Kate smiled up to her, "Do you have Shirley Temples?" The waitress gave a very slight smile in response to Kate, nodding once. "One of those," Kate winked, murmuring a 'thank you' afterwards as the waitress whirled away to get her drink. Certainly Kate couldn't really enjoy her beverage, but she liked to order things that suited her personality were she really able to have them. Silly vampirism. She returned her gaze to Jase. Jase continued to watch the blond as she backed off - all the malice in his eyes and voice gone as suddenly as when a spring blows - it was always there, always tension in the powerful, sleek coils, but it was a sudden and violent thing. She looked slightly unnerved by this and turned before she darted into the kitchen, an awkward half-run that she tried to make look professional. Hmm. Interesting. Jason Whitechester arched an eyebrow, the motion causing his pupils, set in their ember-bright irises, to contract slightly, the black holes twisting in on themselves in a self destructive fashion. Like now there was no-one else to burn up they turned on themselves, ripping him to shreds inside. With her out of his immediate line of sight, the vampire returned his attention to Kate, who folded her legs and smiled at him from across the table, her topaz eyes of stark contrast to his worryingly crimson ones. Hers inspired a sense of warmth whilst his seemed to do their best to invoke the opposite, fear-striking. They matched his ability perfectly. Jase exhaled slowly, the air comparatively warmer than it had been before, and leaned back slightly in the chair, seeming perfectly comfortable despite the closed, crowded room. he just tuned the humans out, really. Kate mentioned the weather and Jase averted his eyes to the rain, pondering over it for a few moments before he replied, his Kansas-based accent cutting smoothly over the restless hum of the humans. "It is, actually. I think sunlight's too romanticised - " He lowered his voice for a moment, too deep for the children and adults milling in the room to hear. "The whole sparkling thing's not so great, either."
Well, it was stupid. Why did vampires have to sparkle, for crying out loud?
"Oh, and your appearance is perfectly fine." Jason added, in response to her comment on the whole dancing-in-the-rain or whatever it was. She noted the whole Jason and Random Staff Member conversation, though - and she let him know it. I see you're aiming to receive spit-filled dishes this evening by being ever-so courteous to the staff. Jase rotated his jaw slowly, the enamel on his teeth grating against their counterparts. "Mmm," he sighed, pulling a face. "Mind you, it doesn't taste so great anyway.." But repenting, he glanced over at the kitchen doors and dragged the collective stress levels down. The effect was immediate; a manic looking business man's heart rate decreased, everyone seemed calmer, and Jase looked back to Kate like nothing happened. The waitress returned and Jase ignored her, though he did relax her - her shoulders unstiffened, she took a long, slow breath, and seemed happier in general. Jase stared out the window. When she left, Jase smirked playfully at her. "..Shirley Temples, hey?" He inquired lazily, using a spoon to prod listlessly at the icky brown coffee. The liquid was kind of sluggish, like it tried to ignore the caffeine he could smell in it. "So, Kateeeee," he dragged out her name with a half-smile. "How's life going for you veggies since we last met?"

ALL AROUND MEA R E F A M I L I A R F A C E S , W O R N O U T P L A C E S , W O R N O U T F A C E S_________________________________________________ She glanced sidelong to Jase's facial features as he responded about the weather. She let a small smile sneak onto her lips as she flicked her gaze back out the window. "Romanticised, indeed. I love the rain. And thunder." She pursed her lips a little, "In fact, in a storm like this, my friends probably have a rather rowdy game of baseball going on." She looked to him again, wrinkling her nose as he mentioned the 'sparkling thing'. "Yeah, I'm not the most fond of that aspect of our being either. It's kind of like "Hey! Lookit us! We're exceptionally different!"," she let out a short snort, shaking her head.
As he commented on her appearance, she nearly beamed. "Oh, you think so?," she mused, glancing over her wet clothes. The outfit would have clung to her in all the right places and look quite cute if it wasn't drenched with rainwater. But if Jase thought she was still good-looking, then maybe she didn't have anything to worry about. She watched him grind his teeth, more fascinated by everything he did than irritated by the sound like most people would be. She smirked a little bit, "I'm sure this isn't five-star food, by any means."
She may have missed any initial calming of those around them, but the second time, even she felt a little more at ease. She furrowed her eyebrows a little, eyeing Jase up. "Fancy little trick, that is," she tilted her head a bit, "what would you call it?" She loved meeting others with gifts because she knew they were less common. She didn't know enough of Jase's ability, and would probably now press until she did. "I have a small trick of my very own, as well," she winked. Okay, so, her electrical current wasn't really a small trick. It was more of a rather strong trick. But I digress.
Kate laughed, "Yes, Shirley Temples. I was always for the fruity beverages. I just wish I could still enjoy them." After another moment, the waitress returned with her drink, and Kate murmured another 'thanks' to her. She glanced up as the waitress asked if they needed anything else, and Kate smiled politely. "Oh no, we're fine, thank you." The waitress gave a nod and headed off to help out her other tables.
Kate fiddled with the cherry stem coming out of her glass, looking to Jase again as he dragged out her name in a way that made her smile again. "Life's okay, I suppose. I'm settling into Washington quite well. And I suppose my "veggie" friends are all okay too. One of them is getting married soon, even though I think it's still formally unnannounced...," she began to trail off at the end, sounding more like she was asking a question then making a statement. She shook her head and glanced at her glass, "But yeah, life's good." She glanced up at him again, "And yourself?" Well, it was true! In those god-awful movies where the couples lie on the grass in the sunset, talking about how pretty it all is, they always seem to be in the sun. Wasn't rain prettier, anyway? Jase found it oddly mesmerising - the perfect angles at which it fell, the silvery haze and the rapid cooling of the air, especially in summer. The soft humming buzz as it hit the ground and washed away the horrors of the day, cleaned it all off and gave it another chance. Jase frowned thoughtfully out the window while he ran through this mental tangent - which really only took about an eighty-fifth of a second. And the sparkle thing.. seriously. Was there some kind of management decision Jase had been unlucky enough to miss out on? 'Well, all if favour of sparkling and thus looking decidedly stupid, say aye..'. Mm. Subtle right there, evolution. "I guess you would need rain and/or thunder for vampire baseball.." he mused, arching his eyebrows. "And that sparkling thing.. I mean, we aren't angler fish or anything [in case this happens to be true, let me know] and we don't need light to attract prey, so it seems fairly superfluous.." He wrinkled his nose in disdain that he still managed to make look perfect. That part of vampire life wasn't so bad. Hell, Jason could pull off a tucked in shirt and pens in his pocket and still look great - but thankfully he had much more taste. And despite the rain, he did still think Kate looked great - he just downplayed it with a perfect poker face.
Owned.
Five-star? He wasn't even sure this strange liquid that was almost, but not entirely, unlike coffee deserved for it to be served in a restaurant at all. Maybe a dingy little truck stop where there was always someone passed out at the bench, a corpse in the dumpster with a knife in it's back, and an exceptionally blond waitress who seems intent on trying to out stare you, which they always seem to think is attractive. Horrible places. And while the waitress took Kate's order, Jase just rain-gazed and dragged her stress levels down. But the whole room noticed it - the laughter got more abundant and louder, the children joining in with tinkling laughs of their own. Jason ignored them and tried not to think about it. The waitress cracked a bright smile - which she certainly hadn't been doing before. When she left Jase dropped the spoon he'd been absently twirling into the coffee and looked back at the vampire sitting opposite him - who proceeded to bug him about what he'd just done. Jase kept his answer fairly ambiguous. "Mmm - let's just say I'm very concerned with the emotions of others." And, there - she was gifted too. He was immediately fascinated but kept himself impassive, a perfect poker face. "Oh? What might that be?" Which was when she ordered her Shirley Temple [Jase shook his head with a playful grin] and the waitress buggered off still grinning like an idiot. So he let go of his hold on her emotions. It was easier to amplify negative emotions than decrease them, anyway.
So, whatever.
And then Kate started answering his question and he again rested his jaw on his fingers, pushing the coffee out of the way with two fingers. It made a strange scraping noise over the table. So she was settling into her move from Alaska well. Jason half-smiled and bobbed his head in acknowledgement, but otherwise remained quiet. Well, what could he say? And one of her friends was getting married - "Wow," Jase commented with a grin, and when she mentioned it was formally unannounced he shot her a mischievous smirk. "Oh, don't worry - secret's safe with me." She asked how his life was going and Jase exhaled slowly, raking over the past week to see if anything interesting had happened. "Dull," he admitted. "I went to go see my sister's grave, and then I came here.. Other than that, fairly uninteresting." When he mentioned his sister he glanced away, but said nothing more on the matter.
