Jasper Whitlock Hale , "You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope."
The sun was sinking slowly over the horizon, the day fading away into the blackness of the night. It was this time of day that Jasper preferred, Twilight. Many a discussion had been had between himself and Edward over this time of day, a fact that many people would find odd. When you were immortal however, the topics of conversation that many people discussed were no longer really interesting. One topic that was still interesting however, was that of the hunt. Jasper had made it a habit to go hunting with Alice, typically just having fun with her. Tonight however, what with Edward's detatchment lately, Jasper had chosen to come out with Emmett, taking up Edward's place in the little contest with their brother. Emmett was fond of hunting bears, particularly Grizzlies, a prey that Jasper wasn't used to hunting. He and Alice typically kept to the faster prey, things that they couldn't rely on their physical capabilities to catch.
If he were being honest with himself, Jasper would admit that he was slightly nervous about the hunt tonight. It wasnt that he didn't have the same physical skill that his brother's had, quite the contrary. Jasper had been a vampire for far longer than either Edward or Emmett, and he knew the extent of his capabilities by now. The fact was that he simply didn't know how a Grizzly Bear would fight, and he was quite intrigued to see how Emmett would handle one of them. A part of him even wanted to tangle with one of them himself, although he knew that he would probably take Edward's role on, hunting things like Mountain Lions. One thing was certain though: the brothers would be competing with each other, and every movement they made during the hunt would make a difference. He was determined that he would not let Emmett show him up, despite the obvious advantages that he had in this type of contest.
Whereas Emmett could never hope to keep up with Jasper when it came to academics or strategy, the same could be said for Jasper when it came down to sheer physicality. There were very few people that Jasper hoped he would never be forced to fight, and Emmett was definitely near the top of the list. His thoughts drifted to how effortlessly Emmett had restrained him when he had moved on Bella, when he had let his blood lust overwhelm his better nature and common sense. A pang of guilt struck him, never having completely forgiven himself for the incident. Pushing the thoughts from his mind, he strode confidently into the clearing where they typically played baseball, the spot that they had arranged to start the hunt from. Seeing Emmett approach, Jasper merely smiled, speaking softly, but knowing full well that Emmett would be able to hear him. "Let the games begin."

Emmett Dale McCarty Cullen If you go out in the woods today You're sure of a big surprise. If you go out in the woods today You'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was Will gather there for certain, because Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic. Hunting was never something Emmett did alone, however it wasn’t often something he got to have too much fun with what with Rose telling him off for getting too dirty. How could you have fun and not get dirty? The best bit of the hunt was playing with your prey yet Rose often told him off for ‘playing with his food’ unless she was in a good mood, in that case he could do as he pleased. Today however he was hunting with Jasper, seen as Ed had gone off with Bella and barely seemed to spend time with Jasper and Emmett anymore; it was just going to be them two. A hunt between the two brothers, however, could never just be a hunt. Oh no, a challenge was the best way to describe it and today Jasper was to go hunting for Emmett’s favourite. The grizzly bear, oh yes this hunt should be great fun.
The sun was just setting; Twilight hour, perfect hunting time, Dressed in jeans and a loose t-shirt and some sneakers Emmett set off through the forest toward the clearing where the hunt would begin. Of course they’d make their way through the forest, maybe catch a deer or two as they went through there, and make their way up the mountain, for a bit of mountain lion and some grizzlies. The thought made the burning sensation in the back of his throat flare up, making him run faster through the forest, dodging trees and other flora which it was best not to destroy. He hadn’t hunted in a short while; his eyes were slowly starting to darken. However he was in no rush to hunt, he could have lasted a couple more weeks before actually really needing to hunt. But living and being around humans (especially with Bella around now) made it hard not to hunt so often.
It wasn’t long before he’d entered the clearing, Jazz was there. Prompt as ever, everyone knew Jaspers time keeping was near perfect compared to say Emmett’s. He heard Jaspers voice, despite the fact Jasper had barely spoken them, and grinned. Oh the games where defiantly about to begin. He skidded to a halt in front of Jasper. ”Ready?” he asked. Still grinning, he was defiantly excited about this hunt, there was no hiding that. He couldn’t wait to take on some grizzly, and beat his brother at this little challenge. Jasper had the strategies but Emmett had the brute force.

Jasper Whitlock Hale , "You held out your hand, and I took it without stopping to make sense of what I was doing. For the first time in almost a century, I felt hope."
Watching as Emmett stopped directly in front of him, Jasper suppressed a laugh. What was it with Emmett and trying to show off like that? He always had to stop right in front of people, a trait that was a little annoying. Being honest though, Jasper found it somewhat amusing, even if he would never tell Emmett as much. Yes, that was they last thing they needed, to encourage him. Merely nodding in response, Jasper took off at a sprint, his lithe form sliding swiftly from the clearing and into the forest beyond. They would be going up the mountain, the only place that they could hunt for Emmett's prey of choice. He and Alice didn't typically make it all the way to the top of the mountain, although he had a feeling that he would be visiting the precipice today. His mind raced as he darted through the forest, narrowly missing trees on multiple occasions.
The appearance of one of the Volturi, Jane especially, still had him a fair bit uneasy. He had felt the resentment radiating off of Alice the moment he had stepped into the room with them, and Carlisle, though openly friendly, had plenty of the same troubling thoughts. It was one thing when he despised someone. That in itself, was bad enough. And oh did he loathe Jane. She had almost been the death of Alice, something he had never forgotten, and something he would never forgive her for. Hell, if she had been in charge, Alice would have never gotten out of Volterra in the first place. No, the worst part of the entire scenario was that not only did he have to deal with his hatred for her, but he had to endure the feelings of everyone else as well. None of them liked her, despite the facade that Carlisle may put on, and she had to know as much. After all, she bordered on the Volturi's own little rule about immortal children. What was the girl, twelve? C'mon now, that simply had to be against the rules.
The thoughts slowly fell away, forced from his mind by the smell of the trees up here, the clarity of the air when compared to even their own forest. The mountain was a pure place, mainly due to the overpopulation of grizzlies that kept the humans from coming up here. He didn't have to look to know that Emmett was beside him, eager to begin the hunt. His desire was so great, so overwhelming. Emmett had always been one for strong emotions though, something that Jasper had quickly found out. Thankfully he had learned to block most of it out, otherwise god forbid he be stuck in a room with Emmett and Rose. Cocking his head to the side, Jasper gave his brother a smile. He was eager as well, if only to escape the thoughts that had plagued him ever since Jane's appearance. "So..is there any specific trick to the Grizzly, or do you treat it just like every other animal?" The question had been asked, although Jasper already knew the answer. To Emmett, it would simply be another animal. Another beast to be overpowered. Oh how childish.
