It was usually busy for that time of the day, but the young female seemed as if she could care less. Set away from the group of tourists and random people scattered around the beach on the slightly overcast day, Leah found a dead log that had been spit back out from the sea. It was high on the beach, where one thought high tide didn't normally reach. She knew better than to venture down there on a weekend, which was why it was Tuesday. The local kids were in school, well most of them at least, and the tourists were few in numbers. It was her escape, and had been since she was younger. Leah figured it was everyone's escape, though. It had a serene sense to it, calm and peaceful. Even when the beach was host to parties and cookouts, it held it's halcyon.
That's what she needed. Peace. Seemingly a normal young female, most would say she had little to complain about. She on the other hand would beg to disagree. Being a...Leah couldn't bring herself to say the word werewolf. She was battling inner demons when she herself viewed her curse as a demon. Werewolves were things of nightmares, as were vampires. And until recently, she had believed that was all it was. But, as always, she was wrong.
Just like she had been wrong about Sam. The thought struck her deep inside as she closed her eyes, her thoughts drifting back to her freshman year, before Sam Uley's change, and before he imprinted on her cousin. It was one of those things, you need one thing, but once you get it, there are consequences. Leah's consequence to peace was haunting memories. Something she didn't want to think about. She had half a mind to turn and escape to the forest, if only she wasn't mentally linked to everyone else.
Instead, Leah rose from her spot on the dead wood, noticing the group of tourists leaving as she walked up a sand and dirt incline to a slight drop off above the beach. Where the forest met the ocean. She didn't have to change to walk the forest. Changing was her last choice, always. Her feet shuffled along the forest flooring, and she could hear every twig that she stepped on. Her heightened sense of hearing infuriated her more than pleased her. Anything werewolf related was of a negative to her. Her hands subconsciously rubbed her upper arms and forearms, feeling the muscles that had seemingly formed out of no where. How could someone not be curious in her sudden lifestyle change? Most probably thought she was just taking the blow from Sam hard and had turned butch. Leah let a depressing sigh escape her lips. She felt butch. She no longer felt herself, because herself was no longer to be found.
She stopped rather quickly, her head snapping to the left. The twig and leaves that had rustle were not made by her. She could smell it in the air, rolling her eyes after a moment. It was nothing, just one of her pack brothers. Leah was curious as to why he was so close to the beach. "Brady, it's not nice to follow people." She muttered, turning on her heel and continuing walking. He seemed to back off, which made her swell slightly with authority. It was a good feeling to have someone do something she wanted them to do, even if she hadn't exactly told him to do so. There was another twig that snapped, and a few more leaves that rustled, but Leah ignored them to the best of her abilities. The newer members of the pack that she so desperately wished she was not apart of, would learn soon enough to give her her space.
She tugged slightly on her sleeve, her skin hot to the touch. She didn't need a jacket, in fact if she had worn one she would have been dying by now. The flimsy, thin shirt was enough for her, and it was really just something to wear. She was tired of walking around in sweats and carrying extra cloths on her leg. That day she was determined not to shift, it was a promise she had made herself make.
