Bella had just gotten out of her class before lunch, she had been waiting for Edward for about five minuets and he was normally there waiting for her. She didn’t know what to think about that. Mostly just that he was probably running late. He might of needed to go to the forest for a quick hunt. Shrugging she started to make her way to the lunch room. She was very hungry and she didn’t want to have to wait and then not have enough time to eat. She hated her ‘human problems’ as she calls them. Going to the bathroom eating, taking a shower that kind of thing. She had been so lost in her thoughts that she wasn’t paying much attention to where she was going. Only to knock into someone. Which people normally knew to stay out of her way because of her being so clumsy. With it being such a small school you would think you know everyone but apparently that’s not the case.
“I’m sorry.” she said, to the unknown person. She didn’t want to start anything so she just walked around him and made her way to the lunch room again. Finally having made it she looked around the room for the cullens. Expecting to see them in their favorite table. She had to let out a sigh when they were not there. Of course her old fears of them leaving came rushing back. They were always there unless the sun was out other then that they were always there. She made her way to the food and picked out some stuff that she really didn’t even look at. Right now, even though she was starving, all her attention was on finding Edward and the rust of the cullens. He hadn’t been in the class before lunch and she hadn’t seen him since before that.
Having sat down at the table she put her head down. She wasn’t going to be able to eat and she knew that. She was to nervous about the fact that none of the cullens showed up. Sighing she began to think of the scenarios that could of transpired. She didn’t believe that they would have let their guard down enough to attach a human. No her thoughts were along the lines of being caught out hunting. Maybe something happened to them. The voultri? She sighed again and looked to her plate any trace of an appetite gone. That was her life now. In between worrying about Charlie and her friends and the cullens getting killed by the vaultri she didn’t have much time for anything else.

Edwards’s foot slammed down on the accelerator. If Charlie could see him now, he’d surely be pulled over and at the very least locked up in a cell. Going over 100mph through Fork’s was practically unheard of, but the streets were quiet and no chance of anyone getting hurt with Edwards unparalleled reflexes. He’d received a message just before the pre-lunch period lesson. Well I say received a message, I mean a mental message. He had just left Bella safely at her own class when Emmett had memo’d him telling him that they needed to leave now. Go home because some urgent had come up. He had been gone only over an hour but knew that Bella would now be worried for him, and the rest of the Cullen’s since none had turned up for the lunch hour. His mind span at all the possibilities that could have happened to her, she could end up going looking for him and fall over a rock. Maybe she’d even fall over her own shoe lace again. The fact was Edward wanted Bella out of the school, now. The news they’d been told was infact there were new vampires in the forests. Not vegetarian vampires. The school was awfully near the forest and if they were that hungry, he didn’t think they would think twice about attacking the school. For them it would be a ten course meal at a top restaurant. A growl slipped through his teeth as he raced back to the school at the thought of another vampire hurting Bella. Screeching into the parking lot he almost ran over a bunch of younger girls, who just stood there staring at him dreamily. Women. All the girls at Fork’s seemed to just stare whenever to Cullen boys or CJ were near. He ran up the steps that led to cafeteria and flung the door open. Ran up the stairs at human pace of course, like he’d be stupid enough to run at vampire speed- though if it meant getting Bella out of there quickly and safely he would have. His eyes scanned the room, hearing every comment that people were thinking when entered the room. His eyes finally settled on Bella, her head was down resting on the table. He strolled over and placed his hand on her back. “Bella I’m sorry,” at the moment there was no sign of any trouble, therefore no reason to drag Bella out of there… yet. He wasn’t going to tell her what was going on. It would only panic her, she hadn’t had the best run in with vampires… James, Laurent, Victoria, Riley… the list was endless. He was sure she could probably see some sense of panic in his eyes as he scoured the room, just checking for anything out the normal. He was sure the other Cullen’s would join him soon, they probably obeyed the speed limits more than Edward. He quickly covered the fear in his eyes, and turned back to her, he cupped her face gently in his hands and placed a delicate kiss on her lips.

Not even noticing that Edward was anywhere near, which was a feat in itself before she usually had this uncanny ability of sensing when he was near. She jumped when he put his had on her back. Looking up at him she should of realized he was there because of how quite it was in the lunch room he had that ability to shut anyone up. She seen a ‘look’ in his eyes before he had a chance to cover it up. “Edward.” she breathed. “Are you alright? What happened?” she asked looking up at him. She didn’t want to do this in the lunch room so she spoke quietly knowing that he would be able to hear her. “Is everyone alright?” she asked knowing that he would know she meant her father and the other cullens. She got up and stood next to him.
Though she had a feeling that he would not tell her what was going on. She would have to talk him into it because not telling her was putting her in more danger then leaving her in the dark. If she knew what was happening then she could avoid things. Then a thought accord out of nowhere. ‘The Voultri’. this had to do with them some how. Why else would Edward be acting like that. She sighed to herself again. “It’s the Vaultri? Right?” she asked. “there finally coming after me.” it was a statement not a question. She didn’t want to look into his eyes because that would just conform it. She looked around only just remembering that they were in the lunch room at school. “Is Alice or anyone coming here?” she asked, she wanted to get out of here and talk to him because that was the only way he would budge and tell her what was happening.
She sighed once again and looked around. She assumed that the cullens would be back here because they still had three more classes to go and they wouldn’t want to blow their cover. Going to classes helped that. It helped with the image the cullens where trying to put together that hey where human and everything. She looked at Edward who was still standing next to her chair and pointed to the chair next to hers. They might as well sit down or they would draw more attention to themselves then what they already did. Edward alone could draw the attention of a who room. She glanved at him again and waited for him to speak even though she knew that what ever he said he would tell her the truth about what was happening. Even though the look that he gave earlier was long gone and his face was back to looking plain she knew there was something wrong. It just felt like there was something wrong. Like the time with James, or Laurent and even Victoria. It was just wrong.

The lunch room shushed drastically in that one moment, he shifted his eyes from Bella’s own- a feat he always found difficult since they were just so god damn beautiful- and looked at the sea of faces giving them a look that made them quickly return to their normal droning conversations. It was only then he turned back to Bella. He saw the immediate concern both in her eyes but also laced in her words. He leant forwards and wrapped an arm tightly around her waist, drawing her close to his body. “Shhh” he murmered softly into her hair. “I am fine, honestly. I just had to… take care of something- but it didn’t quite work out like planned,”Edward and his brothers had swept separately through the woods looking for the vampires, Edward had been the one to come across them. After a rather less than friendly altercation regarding eating the civilians of Forks, Edward had been bitten on his neck- all that was left was a slight mark doubled with a sting from the venom. He wasn’t going to tell Bella anything else here, he wasn’t sure that he was even going to tell her about being attacked. He knew she’d only worry. “No… No its not the Volturi… its others,” he involuntary reached up and stroked his neck before lowering his hand down to rest on Bella’s waist. “They are not coming for you, I won’t let them get you even if they were coming,” he promised, a hint of a low threat echoed in his voice. “I don’t think so, they’re still…tending to the problem,” he glanced at Bella’s features which were taunt with worry. Knowing Bella it wasn’t just worry for herself but also worry for him. The cafeteria was still full of mumbles and conversations that Edward really didn’t care about, but one thing he knew immediately was that this wasn’t the safest place to be. He lowered his lips onto her soft hair, “Look. Everything is ok, I won’t let anything happen to you…” he searched her eyes for a moment later, he knew this afternoon would be no good keeping her at school. He let out a deep sigh, though he would preferably keep Bella with him at all times. “Do you want to go back to your house, Charlie’s at the station I made sure that he was safe before I came here. I’ll come with you, and if you really want to know what happen and what is going on, then I’ll tell you. If not, then you stay here for your lessons, and I’ll go back and try again, its totally up to you,” Edward didn’t want to force her out of lessons against her will, but If she chose to stay and do her lessons then he didn’t make her aware that infact he would be perched right outside the window. Just incase.

Bella glanced around when the lunch room quieted down, everyone was starring at them or rather they were starring at Edward and by default her. It felt like her very fist day here. She glanced back to Edward when the conversation continued giving him that concerned look. She sighed into his embrace, this is what she needed to be reassured by him though she was determined to get answers and she would do that no matter what. “What was it?” she whispered. Even though she knew he would not tell her here. Everyone was carefully avoiding them which naturally meant that they were watching their every move. She had to sigh at his words. When something didn’t work out like they, Edward and his siblings, meant it to then it usually spelled trouble for them.
She knew from the moment that he walked in the door that it had to be something bad, he had never left her here at school for as long as he did today, unless the sun was shining and today was definitely not one of those days. “Others?” she whispered, then her thoughts immediately went to James. “Like James?” she said, so quietly that she thought Edward might not even hear her, even with his super vampire hearing but of course she knew he would. She had to sigh with a little bit of relief at his words. “Are you sure they aren’t coming here?” she asked, she thought about everyone in forks. Charlie, Jessica, and even mike.
She couldn’t help but lean into him when he spoke those words. “I know you wont.” she whispered into his neck. She shivered but not from the cold of his skin. She shivered from his reluctance to tell her what was really going on.. She looked into his face if he was talking about taking her to Charlie’s house then something bad must be happening. “I-I think I will come with you.” she said, glancing behind him. “I don’t want to be here without you.” she said, then glanced at him. “Unless you want to go back with your family then I will stay.” she said, getting a bit worried. “But I want to know what’s going on.” she said, her face becoming more determined then scared. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t want to leave the lessons but she did not want Edward to go either. And she wanted to know what was happening. “What do you prefer?” she asked. She knew that he would be torn between herself and his family. She really dint want to put him in that position but she didn't want to stay alone either

Bella’s one hundred and ten questions regarding what he had just said, was as much as he had expected. He thought carefully about what he was going to say next. “Yes… like James… but these… these ones aren’t going to be deterred as easily as he was,” he looked at her worried face and wrapped his arms around her. “I don’t know Bella, I don’t know where they are that the moment. The others they’re searching, protecting… but…they’ll be ok, I promise you,” he roughly kissed her hair, trying to sound up most confident as always. “Yes I think I’d rather you came with me if I’m totally honest, I think… you should know what’s happening. I know what happened last time you didn’t know- maybe now I should tell you,” He saw the fear leave a certain amount of the facial features he loved so much, replaced with the steel determination that he loved about her so much. “Come on then, we’ll go to yours, its probably safer than mine at this moment in time- they may be drawn to the scent of us- especially after…” he cut off short. He would tell her in all good time about what happened in the woods, but not here, not now. Grasping her small hand in his own, he led her out of the cafeteria and into the deserted car park. His nostrils flared, searching for a scent of others he did not recognize. Ready to leap and defend his love if needs be. But nothing- they weren’t here. Yet. Pulling the passenger side door open he made sure she was safely in before walking to his side and climbing in. One hand stayed on the wheel during the ride home, the other stayed firmly clutching Bella’s. He didn’t have to be able to read her mind to feel the tension she would be feeling. Driving through Forks at a speed that wrenched the leaves away from their habitat of the large oak tree’s. Pulling into Bella’s drive, he cast out his mind ears. Well mind ears? He wasn’t sure if that was the correct biological term, he’d have to check with Carlisle. He heard nothing, that could only mean that no-one was around- or infact they had all been eating whatever Bella had that made him immune to the thoughts. Edward was taking all precautions. Before Bella would have been able to so much as blink, she was in his arms, into the house and placed gently onto her bed. He leant down placing a gentle kiss on her lips; he pulled back and sat on the end of the bed- unsure of how to tell her what he KNEW he had to. Clearing his throat he began, “There are others, like you said earlier -others like James. Maybe even worse than James. They’ve been hunting, so we went to try and solve the problem… now listen I don’t want you to worry… but this is why I wanted you out of there as soon as possible.” Reaching for the hem of his shirt he stood up and pulled the thin material over his head, exposing his perfectly toned body from the front. From this angle there was nothing out of the ordinary, he didn’t want Bella to see it first off. “I will heal ok?” with that he turned around, so she could see his back. All over his back were savaged bite marks, red raw patches in which you could see where the vampire had ripped out pieces of his flesh. He stood there in silence for a few moments, letting her soak this new information in. The bites ran from the small of his back to the sides of his neck. The neck that Bella so often loved to bury her head in. He then turned to her, his eyes liquid gold with worry- he settled himself onto the bed pulling her into his lap- only wincing slightly at the strain it put on the already healing savage marks. If Bella had seen it when it had first happened, she would probably have fainted on the spot, even Emmett had remarked how impressive it infact was. “Nothing will hurt you, or Charlie or even that blastered Newton if you wish. I promise I’ll protect you,”
